UK
It's easy to point out single events like the one that just happened here in Denmark, but like the tweet perfectly outlines it's extremely uncommon for such events to take place in countries with strict gun laws and these few cases often lead to stricter laws like in the case of New Zealand.

The only other event that comes close to what happened yesterday in Denmark was the 2015 terrorist shootings at Krudttønden and even that had a much smaller scope than what we usually see in the US.

The problem is that none of these shootings matter in the US, it's thoughts and prayers for a few hours and then nothing changes, there's zero expectation for change and this is the new normal as far as the government is concerned.

I'm UK.... I was born in 1984... I can only recall 2 mass shootings in the UK in that time...

Dunblane (which caused the banning of handguns) and the Cumbria one..

Even mass knife attacks have happened but cause less impact, and of course the London bombings and Manchester bombings...

That is it...

In America it's like a every day thing..

You'll go to war over the twin towers in NY but mass shootings you sleep on... Logically it makes no sense...

Mass availablity of guns are bad, but certain lobby groups and their puppets like the status quo in the US...

I feel terrible for the large portion of people in the US that understand this, but can't do a thing about it..

People can't even fucking celebrate without a fucking brat and his little shoot-shoot threatening others existence. It's kind of sad when you just want to go out and live and you have to think "Wow there's a lot of people here, when will a shooter show up?".

Just. Fuck.

There are fucked up people with mental issues in Japan, In Finland, in Croatia, in wherever. The only difference is how easy is to get a gun in the US. It's no rocket science.

Statement from President Biden on the Shooting in Highland Park, Illinois | The White House

Jill and I are shocked by the senseless gun violence that has yet again brought grief to an American community on this Independence Day. As always, we are grateful for the first responders and law enforcement on the scene. I have spoken to Governor Pritzker and Mayor Rotering, and have offered...
anyone who did not see this coming, quite frankly has not been paying attention and is massivily out of touch and does not belong anywhere near a leadership position.

Rolling Stone and other major outlets really have a lot of blood on their hands in popularizing and iconifying mass murderers. They weren't the first to do it but the compulsion so many have to post and spread a murderous shitbag's videos and manifestos and make him as big as he wants to be is staggering, especially when future ones expect to get that level of attention.

Once the suspect is in captured/killed, their name needs to be forgotten. Until then, capturing the suspect is the top priority, and the name needs to be out there...for now.

I think they were referring to some stuff that was posted that has since been deleted. It doesn't really serve in helping to find the suspect.

Exactly. There's many stories from around the world of countries that react to violence committed with firearms and subsequently introduce legislation to prevent further harm to affect the general public, yet this is nonsense to US lawmakers that say the US cannot be compared to other countries.

These lobbyist assholes are either too dumb or corrupt to admit there is a problem and meaningful change could happen.

when will something just give
Whenever the people in power who love guns are affected by these tragedies. I imagine ***some*** would change their minds if their son or daughter was killed in a mass shooting.

I thought these people never invested in mental health since it was (to the republicans) a waste of money or leading towards socialism. The GOP really, really needs to get their shit together.
While mental health is a part of it, the GOP wants to use it as the boogeyman instead of the obvious answer that guns are a problem. So they talk a big game about mental health, then never actually do anything about it. It's just a talking point for them, not a call to action.

I was thinking the same. Unfortunately their argument is 'good guy with a gun.' (which they see themselves as for some reason).

the fucked up thing is that this is the closest I've seen to a republican bring up mental health and then actually suggest that some sort of action be done to improve mental health. And it's the vaguest and least helpful suggestion possible. No shit we need to "invest", our country's entire healthcare system is a fucking nightmare and this man's party has only strived to make it worse.

Yeah they're framework will NOT be to change gun laws directly, it will instead be "my little angels now need Secret Service protection right away" which they'll get and then be satisfied with on a personal level while leaving the situation unchanged.

In addition to pushing for gun control we need to start addressing the topic of why it's men, particularly young white men, who feel the need to pick up a gun and go out with the intent of committing mass murder.

Gun reform to the degree that's necessary to curb or resolve this isn't coming any time soon, so there needs to be a focus on the other primary elements of such attacks.

This.

The country has a young white men problem. We need to work to see the exact causes and work to change them.

I always scope out r/conservative whenever a mass shooting happens to see what their galaxy brains are saying. They blamed socialism and the decline in traditional family values for the shooting. Anything but guns

He has this garbage rap video that will probably be taken down soon. Some bullets in a classroom imagery in the latter parts.

Yep, a distraction to buy enough time until the next one. Then the cycle starts again
