President Trump wasn't able to say when asked Wednesday why many non-symptomatic professional athletes have had access to coronavirus testing while many sick Americans don't.

"You'd have to ask them that question," Trump said.

"Should that happen?" the reporter followed up

Trump responded, "No, I wouldn't say so, but perhaps that's been the story of life."

There is no damn way this asshole get re-elected.

Here in Columbus, despite the Governor calling for shutdowns, it really seems like no one is taking this seriously. Had a job interview scheduled for today since before the shutdown and called to confirm it was still on. This was the first time out of the house in like a week and I was expecting to see pretty empty streets and a lot of stuff closed down, but it really just looked like business as usual. The only place I noticed actually closed and had no one in the parking lot were gyms.

I actually asked in the interview if the employer has thought about work from home, because I'm coming from a work from home position and because of Covid, and they were talking about them still contemplating it. Still just thinking about it!

Orange County just confirming "shelter in place" not actually in effect and non-essential businesses not closed after yesterday's confusing message. Seems like it will go in that direction anyway though. We'll see.

Ohio just announced they're closing all salons, barbers, tattoo places, and almost every bmv. Temp checks have to be done for all employees going into work for retail work as well. One step closer to closing all nonessential businesses here.

I work in a factory do we have to do temp checks?

Unfortunately, Dewine said nothing about factories having to enforce the temp checks. Just for retail businesses staying open. I work in a major auto parts store and they've been screwing around on what they want to do since our business has cratered.

I think NY, PA, CT, and NJ are turning into a super state or something. They are coordinating a lot.

Cuomo has been really driving the point home that it doesn't matter what a city/county/state does if their neighboring cities/counties/states are doing something completely different. PA joined NY, NJ and CT today. Hopefully more states close the region follow suit. It is great seeing this level of coordination, especially when the federal govt isn't doing shit.

Still frustrating that Tennessee as a whole has not done a single thing to stop the spread. No closings, not even "guidance" on crowd sizes.

I agree, as I've been watching his press conferences and all this unfold I've been thinking "Man, I wish he was running for President."

He's right. The more the states in the region work together the easier it'll be to really do something.

Fort Worth basically shutting down at midnight.

All restaurants and alcohol makers limited to take out, delivery, or drive thru. All bars, gyms, theaters, etc (basically entertainment) closed. Gatherings limited to <50. Churches, malls, and stores allowed to remain open but must be 50% of posted occupancy or 125 people max (whichever is less).

Occupancy limits don't apply to essential businesses, industrial, or office spaces.

With things for NY looking pretty dire for the next few months, it's times like this I'm actually really glad Cuomo's been being rational about this whole thing.

City of Fresno issues emergency "shelter in place" order starting midnight Thursday, essential services will stay open

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The city of Fresno has issued an emergency order telling everyone to shelter in place starting at midnight Thursday morning and lasting through March 31, but carved out a long list of exemptions for essential functions.

Edit: I should add that they're only reporting 2 cases in the county from travel so far.

Hmmm, that's where I live. My profession is an exemption. This is a weird thing to mention in the article: "Guidelines exclude gun stores from being essential services, but there's no ban on gun sales, so online sales are still allowed."

Hope unemployment funding kicks in soon.

I'm still trying to figure out how non-essential my work is, since they're a resort that's going on like business as usual. Granted, it does take a few days to kick people out of their rooms and cancel/refund reservations.

No, read the article:

[The mayor] says public health officials have told mayors that because of a lack of testing, they should take whatever their local numbers of confirmed cases are and multiply them by 50.

"We've been advised to take action now and not wait for those (official) numbers," said council president Miguel Arias. "If we underreact, people could die."

It seems to be precautionary. The 2 cases were people from the Princess cruise ship. They're located in Fresno County but afaik not in Fresno city.

West Virginia DMV offices are closing:

transportation.wv.gov

WV DMV regional offices to close

Online services and mail-in options available; 90-day extension on licenses and registrations granted

CHARLESTON, WV – The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles will close to the public beginning Thursday, March 19. Out of an abundance of caution, and in accordance with the most recent guidelines and best practices recommended by both the CDC and West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources regarding COVID-19, this action will reduce exposure to both customers and employees.

Many of the most requested DMV transactions can be performed online or mailed in and do not require a trip to a regional office. DMV Headquarters in Charleston will remain in operation with a smaller staff to continue all online and mail-in business transactions while maintaining social distance internally for employee safety.

Online services include:

  • Driver's license renewal (if no changes, and every other cycle)
  • Duplicate driver's license request
  • Vehicle registration renewals
  • Duplicate vehicle registration decals and cards
  • Print your driving record
  • Check your driver's license status

A full list of online services may be found by going to dmv.wv.gov.

The DMV is also extending the expiration date of any driver's license, instructional permit, or vehicle registration with an expiration date in March or April of 2020 for three months from the date of expiration on the face of the document. However, DMV will continue to renew any of these items online or through the U.S. Mail as they come in.

The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles is taking this extraordinary action in response to the National and State states of emergency due to the COVID-19 virus.

For more information, you may contact the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles at 1-800-642-9066.

For more information about COVID-19 prevention and more, call the State's toll-free hotline at 1-800-887-4304 or visit Coronavirus.wv.gov.
Also, not sure if it was already shared, but WV now has two confirmed cases. One is in Mercer County.

Speaking of DMV, I hope they push back the dates for going in to get Real IDs for the whole country. (I haven't yet...)

New Yawk City!
Not a New York City closure story but a story from the city: the MTA asks for a $4B bailout from the federal government.

Officials say subway ridership has plunged 60 percent and nearly 50 percent on the buses. The commuter rails saw a much steeper drop.

The MTA is projecting a $3.7 billion loss from the decline and $300 million in coronovirus related expenses that include subway cleaning.

Dick's Sporting Goods joining the list of companies closing down, but they're still doing curbside pickup which seems like it'd cause spreading if employees are coming into contact with people all day.
