It's my goty and top 5 this decade, and favorite horror game...so idk, lol.
And we're done here.
Seriously though, you're clamoring for features that many RE/survival horror fans hated. QTEs, melee instakills and general player empowerment undermine any real sense of tension. Basically, you want a horror-action game rather than survival horror. I thought RE2 Remake did a fantastic job with resource management and making traditional zombies feel dangerous again. I loved that they weren't easy to kill because it forced you to really think about conversing ammo and finding more creative solutions to problems.
Shame you felt that way op. But I am really glad they didn't go the action RE route. RE4 was great but 5 was lame and 6 is just garbage. The QTEs and dodges completely waters down the horror and tension elements.
People seem to forget there's a whole generation of RE fans that find RE4-6 to be what "RE is all about". We can disagree about that all day, but that's just what some people want/prefer.
The boss encounters have been pretty much a joke. Like WTF at the alligator part. All you did was run.
This is a survival horror game, disempowering the player is the point. The knife has somehow become even shittier than it was before in regular combat. Its nice that you can use it as a defense move like REmake, but it never feels as good as the context sensitive melee actions in RE4.
Which of course brings me my biggest complaint. You can't dodge, and your options for movement and melee are so limited it is pretty apparent you are playing a 20 year old game with a fresh coat of paint.
Oh, one of those people.
According to my Xbox I've finished it......10 times so I must have loved it lol. Only problem I have with it is 4th survivor is bastard hard and I'll probably never be able to beat it!
If you beat the game 10 times, you legit have everything you need to beat 4th survivor.
My Tips:
- Focusing on Stuns and Run (use pistol in sewers to bypass)
- Save magnum for lickers
- when you get to the RPD use shotgun to blow off legs and keep running.
- try to save Grenade defense for final area
You can get it down pretty easily when you realize how much you can run past.
Nah it was the right choice. If you had an action dodge you defang most of the threats in the game.I agree solely about the lack of a proper dodge system. I'm not asking for QTE fest but that's ridiculous in 2019 we can't avoid the boss attack with a dodge button and indeed you have to run in a goofy way around the area for the sake of the old "survival roots". It's a bad design choice and no more excusable.
It's a remake, that's how it was in the original. No dodging, weird alligator encounter etc. I think it's a perfect game and a perfect remake.
Still need to jump into the extra side stories actually.
I agree on the dodging. The realistic graphics just don't go well with the old controls. I'm playing as a young athletic person and can't even dodge or do a simple melee attack? It was silly to the point of immersion breaking at times.
Playing on Standard. No dodging wasn't in the original game but to me, if you're going to remake one of the legendary games in the series and completely ignore a lot of the improvements made to movement and action made in the series lifetime.... What are you thinking?Out of curiosity, which difficulty did you play on?
Also, I don't remember dodging in the original game, I think that was introduced in RE3.
The alligator boss in the original is a pretty bad boss fight, I prefer what they did in the remake.
Dodging had no place. In fact I retain the opinion RE2 Remake gives you too many movement options. You should not be able to move and shoot at the same time, and I think the game could have benefited from tank controls.

To the peeps saying I wanted action RE. No, not exactly anyways. I was hoping it would be kinda like Revelations 2 movement wise with the horror and atmosphere of RE2. Instead... It's pretty much just RE2 with a new camera and beautiful graphics.
Which really has its ups and downs. Movement can be infuriating. Many of the environments are narrow so there's a lot of times where you essentially have to get hit in corridors because you don't have enough ammo and you can't dodge.
When you do have enough ammo enemy encounters end up being too easy because most of them are really dumb and only have 1 or 2 attacks. You can't get hit by multiple attacks either, so even when they gang up on you its not a big deal.
When you do get hit there's pretty much only 2 outcomes the game allows. Either you have a defense item, or you dont. Whereas in RE4 you could mash out of an attack and take less damage, or even open up a QTE to inflict massive damage.
It just feels really simplified, and for me this kind of take on the RE series works better with the camera angles of REmake vs. RE4. Had they gone the Revelations route of taking cues from the entire series but with this budget it would have been amazing. Instead I'm left feeling like maybe it would have been a better game with the traditional camera angles ala' REmake.
But even Hunk can't do any of that. You can have that much ammo in the game already. Hunk has nothing special to his mode but more enemies. You want QTE dodges? You want Leon(a novice cop in his first day) and Claire(A college student) ramboing tru a horde of zombies?
You can play the Hunk extra mode for your action fix.
The only downside of the game is there is no linked escenarios like the original but the rest is perfect. Do yourself a favor a play the game on hardcore for the true REmake2 experience
