Shame it doesn't release on PC yet. Would at least be easy to mod him back in. Maybe in the future.

Great to hear the date is still coming on the same date.

Seeing how it's law from Japan applied to a product created and sold by a japanese company, no ?
Also, it probably allows them to remove the person from the credits and payroll from sells.

Though, seeing that kind of mentality, I wonder if some will consider it is censorship.
This action isn't based on law. The laws are regarding drug use, not retroactively prohibiting the accused's ability to participate in creative works. You think removal of everything he's ever been a part of from stores is law?

Get busted with coke— purged from your works and blacklisted for the rest of your life.

Get busted with child porn or underage escorts— get new manga series contracts with the biggest publisher.

Japan is backwards.

God, they really are just erasing a man from existence for one drug bust, huh.

Still, better than cancelling the whole game outright.

Right? Imagine Hollywood doing this lol

This aspect of it is the most amusing to me. Japan seems to love Hollywood '80s movies, have they ever heard the horror stories of drug usage behind the scenes during that era? Or, like, seen Carrie Fisher in the Star Wars Holiday Special? If their erasure approach was applied to western culture pretty much entire decades would be gone

I asked this in one of the earlier threads but will the new guy also have to replace all the motion capture stuff too? Or is this strictly just a voice work + face model change?

I am legitimately shocked that it's not getting delayed. Good stuff from Sega there.

Sucks that dude's pretty much being erased from existence, though.

I was almost shocked by the lack of delay, but the team works so hard/fast that them getting a new model/voice for Hamura this quick isn't actually all that surprising. The good people at RGGS are wizards in that regard. Naturally I'm saddened that OG Hamura is gone (best part of the game for me) but I love the game so darn much that I'll of course be getting this day one and replaying it in English, especially as I'm really curious to see how good his replacement is.

Now the real trick - how am I going to juggle Judgment and the PS4 remaster of RGG5? Both are out within a week of each other and both are my most wanted games of the year now that DMC5 and Sekiro are out. Guess I'll just play both at once!

So the release date isn't changed but the actor is? Unfortunate that it came to that, but I guess if they were already going to make the change for the Japanese version it's not going to make the expectations/break-even for the Western release any harder to reach.

I still think that Japan's erasure policy does more harm than actual good and punishes the victims of drugs rather than the people proliferating them, but oh well. If they want to change the way they handle drug offenses, they will. Era isn't going to change the country's social rules.

I wonder if the new characters lines won't feel odd as he will be acting all alone. Will Japan still get the altered version or is this only for western release? I'm happy that we're still getting it.

They likely wouldn't be doing all this extra work if they weren't also planning to fold it back into the Japanese release and start selling the game again.

I'm a bit conflicted at the moment.

Now I feel like hunting down some Let's Plays of the Japanese version to see the original performance, but I don't want to spoil myself.

I just hope the original videos containing Pierre Taki aren't taken down by the time the game is finished...

Was really looking forward to this, but now it's kind of tainted for me. Nice that it's still coming out, but I feel like, if I get it, while I play it I'll just be thinking about that dude in jail for basically nothing.

Glad it isn't affecting the release date and man it's a little sooner than I expected, even. Still dumb they have to do it in the first place, particularly for the western release where nobody would give even one iota of a shit.

Lines are recorded solo for all characters from what I've seen from previous dev diaries, so I doubt that should be a problem. And yeah, Japan will totally get a patch to add notHamura into the game. I need to make sure I don't install that patch, so I can keep my Japanese copy pure.

Vids are getting taken down last I saw. But a word of warning. Looking them up is one of the most spoiler filled things you can do. So be very careful there!

Is he even in jail? I don't remember if he was sentenced or anything yet. He wasn't erased from the game because of Japanese law, it's more of a cultural erasure than a legal one.

Best case scenario I guess. Was worried they would delay, or throw out the JP VA or something crazy.

That's fantastic news. And they're even keeping the original release date. Well, my petition wasn't needed after all, thanks anyway to everyone that signed it.

I'm sorry for Pierre Taki, but at least it looks like his work will remain in the game though it's still unclear in what way it will be "altered".

Thank fuck. Sad that they still have to update the guy out but I guess they have to if they plan to bring the character back or whatever.

Glad about the game not getting delayed. It's still terrible that they are doing this in the first place though.

I mean, I can see why you would not want to be seen as promoting drugs.
The person is not erased either, they still exist IRL and their past work exist, this is a "new" product (as in, not the same as the one out in Japan at the moment) which can be altered without including him. Yes, he did work on that creative work, but if SEGA wants to change his character in a localized version, they have all the right, and if the consumption of drug during the production breaches the contract he probably signed, there is no problem there.

If all hiw work was not burnt and his name removed retroactively, yes, it would be stupid and too much. On a localized product which is a new SKU, and basically a new product, I don't mind SEGA saying: "You fucked up, you won't get paid for this and your name won't be attached to it".

You say his past work still exists, but Disney also stopped selling Frozen blurays in Japan and Olaf is being patched out of Kingdom Hearts 3 as we speak.

Glad we're still getting it at least. The change won't really bother me. Unless the redone parts of the game are poorly executed.

This is just for him doing coke or did I miss someting? Seems awfully excessive.
