Agreed on both points. This isn't really news...Doesn't sound like he is saying anything from an insider information pov...just his own personal take on it.
To be fair, I don't expect disc support either.
The latter, but does it matter? Back compatibility is back compatibility and if it has BC for PS3 in any form, even limited, it should work with these discs too, just like on Xbox.pardon my ignorance, but does it read directly from the disc, or it uses the license within the disc to download a converted version digitally so it's able to run the game?
It doesn't make sense to do PS3 digital downloads but not PS3 discs. Both PS3 and PS4 discs are Blu-ray.
If it's BC with PS4 discs and PS3 digital games, it'll be BC with PS3 discs too.
it matters because his answer is very specific. Having BC and it not reading directly from discs aren't mutually exclusive. The latter, but does it matter? It would be a great start with the PS1 and PS2 library you can access from PS3.
People are expecting PS5 to natively play PS1-3 games from disc by brute force, with Xbox One BC all the games are individually emulated.
The BC patent convinced a sizable about.
