PS2 wasn't even able to play all PSX games. With the exception of the Wii, I don't think any system's been able to perfectly emulate its predecessor for BC.
forgive my ignorance but, doesn't the PS3 have a blueray drive as well?
pardon my ignorance, but does it read directly from the disc, or it uses the license within the disc to download a converted version digitally so it's able to run the game?

Sorry, I misread your initial post. I read "can" instead of "can't".
Thought this was interesting doesn't confirm anything but with Jason Schreier records and insider information it brings in some insight on what backwards compatibility will be for the ps5.
He's saying you can't put in a PS1 disc and play it from that disc.I don't get it. Can't it just recognize a game disc and then prompt a digital download like Xbox does? Or is he saying it won't be able to recognize disc's from those systems at all?
