Probably WaPo's new gaming section

Hope it's not paywalled like WashPo.

Jason is one of the only actual journalists that covers gaming. He will do great work wherever he goes. Kotaku has sucked for a long time and I'm glad he finally got out of there. There is no longer any reason for that site to continue existing now. Best of luck to him.

Literally the only times I access Kotaku are to go to Chris Kohler's Curry recipe, and whenever I get linked to a Jason story. The site is impossible to navigate already, and I don't think that losing your best writer is good for your future.

Kotaku is completely different now. Jason's work was the only reason why I've been going to the site for years now. The only stuff I'm aware of that they have left is a shit ton of clickbaity bullshit I'll be happy to never see again.

I quit going there years ago when I discovered NeoGaf. Anything posted to Kotaku that was interesting was posted on GAF so there hasn't really been a need to visit Kotaku for years!

Surprised this thread isn't way bigger already

But anyway, good luck in your future endeavors! Whichever place is getting you is lucky to have you

Good for Jason, but that site has a lot of good writers that deserve better as well. Totilo has an amazing talent for finding great talent so hopefully they're either able to move on or hang on.

Good luck wherever you go Jason. I enjoy reading your work and look forward to seeing where you go next, now that I can stop going to Kotaku.

Good, he didnt seem happy with how the site was run and short of the traffic the site provided I don't see how it did anything to help his excellent reporting skills. Will be curious to see where he lands and if his style of articles follows along.

The ultimate delay by Press Sneak Fuck. I wish him the best and hope he gets as much time as possible with his kid! Looking forward to his book and what comes next for him.

The right decision, I think.

Feels like Schreier has outgrown Kotaku for awhile now.

Spread your beautiful journalistic wings, press sneak fuck!

Jason is cutting the dead weight loose, he'll be successful wherever he goes.

Kotaku on the other hand is basically useless now.

And now we no longer need to ever see those horrid green and pink colors again

Wherever they land or startup it will instantly get more cache then Kotaku could, and yes even a place like Polygon or vice way point whatever they call themselves now. Jason is the name in gaming journalism now, and has been for years.

Yeah, Kotaku was needing him, not the other way around. Curious to see where's he's going to end up and alreaedy lloking forward to more insightful pieces on the industry. There's too few of them, and this guy made a lot of them happen.

Good luck!

Literally the only reason I ever read Kotaku lol. Glad that he'll be working at a new outlet soon enough though, looking forward to it.

I mean, I remember Cecilia D'anistasio doing fantastic work there too, but yeah she left a few months ago, too ... this is a ginormous loss for Kotaku.

May fortune find him wherever he goes.

Obviously will follow him wherever he goes. Also really, really excited for the second book. BSAP was a hell of a good read.

Big loss for Kotaku, but they'll be just fine. Huuuge get for whatever outlet Jason's going to!

Excellent! Best of luck Jason.

Not to say there aren't still talented individuals at Kotaku, but it would be nice of they could all find work away from that company, though understandably that's easier said than done.

Slightly off-topic but Schreier is not the only talent who announced his resignation among GMG Media. Michael Ballaban, a 7+ year Jalopnik vet just announced his resignation: https://jalopnik.com/youll-be-alright-1842884909

Plus Kelly Bourdet, Gizmodo's EIC of 3ish years is leaving in the end of the month.

Back on topic: I'll subscribe to Splitscreen's spiritual successor as it remains one of my favorite weekly podcasts to listen to. But I'll miss hearing the Lifehacker podcast ad and Kirk's morning news style intro. Unless Kirk owns the song and will use it reuse it on Triple Click. Seeing as it's a "new" podcast, I imagine he probably wrote a new intro and intermission music.

I think people here are too harsh on Kotaku as I think Kotaku still has plenty of diverse talent left. Heather Alexandra, Mike Fahey, Paul Tamayo, Ethan Gach, Riley McLeod, Chris Kohler, and The Highlight Reel are still solid mainstays so I'll continue to visit it. And I enjoy reading their game diary articles where writers offer additional analysis. But I know the talent has some storms to weather through so hopefully they get through it.

Kotaku still has some good staff, so I'll probably stay reading it for a while. They have some issues for sure, but at this point, what gaming outlet hasn't had problems? I'm honestly a little confused about the level of hate the site gets from non-GG people; they've made some genuinely major missteps, but they've also done a lot of good work as well. (Fuck the owners, though.)

I responded in the comments there and on Twitter, but best of luck, Jason!!!

(Does anyone have recommendations on other gaming sites to follow, by the way? I read Polygon on and off, but Kotaku's been my mainstay for a while...)

I got into the Splitscreen podcast just recently after a name drop on Waypoint Radio and I'm happy to see that the podcasting will continue as I really like the crew. I wish Jason good luck for his new position, wherever that will be. One of the best in the biz and one of the few who I think can actually call themselves a journalist without quotation marks.

I actually don't go to any sites, I just do here and SIFTD. SIFTD has people curating articles from publications and youtube so it's usually just "good" or "interesting" stuff I'll see in my feed.

Kotaku was already dead when Tim Rogers left the joint.

Most publications don't post animated child porn for clicks.

Good for Jason.

It really is a pain to navigate! Constant stuff popping up, articles loading every time you scroll down, trying to click on a specific thing usually takes you to an ad that jumped up at you, and finally the comments section is a mess.

Kotaku's just hemorrhaging staff. Gita, Tim Rogers, and now Jason are gone. 😕

Cecilia D'Anastasio who did the story on Riot Games also left for Wired I think. Tim Rogers is starting his new thing just now I believe under the ActionButton name. Patreon, Twitch stream, video reviews, probably a podcast and all that. I think the man might be a genius, I can't say for certain though.

Certainly was expecting this for sometime after the well known troubles with G/O media. Easily one of the best in the industry I'm delighted he's continuing .Certainly a big loss for Kotaku though and I fear this may be one of the final nails but that's not that teams fault, horrible situation.

Big congrats jschreier. Enjoy your well deserved rest and I look forward to continue reading your fine work.
