I agree with the new video to an extent. Digital foundry has done a good enough deep dive on their hands on but it does feel like a pattern with these boxes that they play what's out their currently at great performance when they launch but after a few years we just see them decline until we get a rinse repeat.

New video should bring up some points of discussions and yeah I kind of prefer like what they said about little improvements with quality of life and stuff that I really like and I completely agree dual sense when used completely the way it's supposed to be used especially like in AstroBot does make a game feel a little bit better than what it could normally.

And yes I'm enjoying that Zelda game as well.

I can't watch yet, but based on the title and nothing else, definitely sounds like my take on the matter exactly lol.

This reminds me of all the amazing haptic features that were showcased in astrobot, and I cannot remember ever having noticed it again in any other games, which is a great shame.

I haven't watched their videos in a while, because I got tired of the constant negativity, but I was curious to see what they have to say about the Pro. Sure enough it's still the same old script about how bad the gaming industry is and how everything is an excuse to get outraged.

That video is such a bad take all over. PS5 Pro is not a replacement of PS5, it's a premium, niche product for the enthusiasts who want it and can afford it. There won't be exclusive Pro titles, everything will still run just fine on the regular PS5. The argument about people working two jobs to afford rent and living expenses, while it's a sad reality for many, it has no relevance at all in this discussion. Those people should not be concerned about the price of the PS5 Pro (or RTX 4090 for that matter!) to begin with and if they are they should probably take a look at their priorities in life.

Then the argument about quality/performance settings. Why complain about giving players a choice? It's not up to Sony to decide how developers use the HW capabilities of the PS5. 60fps is always a design decision and it can be achieved regardless of the HW. The Pro will simply allow a better image quality for Performance modes, for those who care and can actually notice the difference. Just because Steph is unable or unwilling to notice any image quality difference does not mean it's not there or shouldn't be an option for those wo actually care.

I'm going to ignore the fact that you completely miss the fact that I post this up as just a minor detail and just wanted to go on a rant for yourself. You are definitely entitled to that and it's fine that you haven't watched them and chose of course that video to get mad at even though that was a very positive one this week.

It seems as though the problem is yourself and then coming up with an elitist attitude about it, then proceeding to say that people wouldn't care even though he's with Mark Cerny himself saying that 80% of people tend to go with the frame rate option. And it's honestly been the case with most people and my circle as well as when I make them aware that that is an option.

And as stated in this week's video it's kind of hard to sell the PS5 Pro doing Ray tracing when it itself seems to absolutely kill frame rates in my experiences. It's not just about how a game looks but I believe it was mentioned in that video as well as another video I watched on the subject by another YouTuber Blunty, that is how the game feels especially when things like Monster Hunter or anything like that if you do an action and there's any sort of delay that disconnects you from the game you can 'feel' the difference.

Then again you have to understand something I'm one of those people that believe should have been simplified way back in the day with Saturn and PlayStation. Both of those machines pushing stuff that they could not do really aggravated me back in the day, and yes occasionally you could have amazing tricks like what they did with Burning Rangers using the sound processing for graphics... But then there were other times were just made a game.. crappy :/

I've lost that battle a long time ago but I could still complain about it... just like I do in Monster Hunter with all those cosmetic nonsense that they're trying to sell. And I don't need James Stephanie Sterling to tell me to be mad about that, when I'm mad on my own xD

Latest video is quite good, same reason i feel the new switch machine is that much more exiting than anything else. Also a fine insight to Nintendo unique philosophy and approach and how it differs from the other bigs. Kudos:)

I re-read your post twice and I still fail to understand what's your objection to what I said. I am among those who prefer playing in performance mode, but I also can notice the difference in image quality and recognize the compromises that have to be made to reach 60fps on a console. Giving the players a choice between the two modes when possible is a positive things IMO. I don't play at 30fps, but I'm glad the option is there for those who value graphic fidelity over frame rate. Now they offer the PS5 Pro that can give you better image quality in performance mode. What's wrong with that?

Big thing I got from the most recent episode is that Stephanie is enjoying Echoes of Wisdom quite a bit. After their more critical take of BOTW and TOTK, happy that there's a Zelda game that they really enjoy.

As for the main point, yeah, graphical upgrades are barely noticeable these when it comes to Playstation and Xbox having their new "stronger" console. Nintendo has the advantage in where they can get those graphical upgrades, increase the consoles power by enough to keep the console in a cheaper range and improve their hardware. Here's hoping when the next console from Nintendo is announced, it does bring those improvements to the hardware.

Please elaborate. Do you really think that people who are struggling to pay their rent and putting food on the table really care that the PS5 Pro is $700?
It's just weird trying to tell other people what their priorities should be. People can handle their own priorities with regards to their financial situation and in case they can't, neither you or anyone else will be able to change that. At the end of the day it's a commercial product that is being sold to increase interest in their brand and ecosystem so it's inherently in Sony's interest to price it appropriately. It's also still very much a mainstream console serving as a middle ground between PS5 and PS6, it's not at all comparable to a 4090 which will outperform the vast majority of next generation cards.

My point was that Steph's argument "people are struggling financially so Sony should not sell a Pro version of their console for $700" is ridiculous. People will decide if it's worth it and will spend their money however they want. Again, those who are in such dire situation will not care what the PS5 Pro costs.

The PS5 Pro is comparable to the top end GPUs in the sense that you don't need either of those things to enjoy gaming. You don't need a 4090 or even a 4080 to have an enjoyable gaming experience on PC. You don't need a PS5 Pro to enjoy this generation's titles. The regular PS will still be made and sold and every current and future PS5 game will still run on the base model just fine.

Sony decided not to subsidize the Pro and cover the full cost plus some margin with the $700 price tag. Is it the wrong decision? The market will respond accordingly, just like it did with the GPUs this generation. For some it will be worth it, others will ignore it and carry on with what they have. I don't see what the problem is.

I haven't watched THIS video yet, but I've seen so many "UBISOFT IN TROUBLE" videos with thumbnails featuring Yasuke, that I've pre-emptively blocked channels assuming they were chuds complaining about "WOKE DEI" when they may have actually been legitimate.

Whoops.

And also ugh that's how the discourse has permeated. Now that there's legitimate issues, they've gone unheard (to me) because of bullshitery from GamerGators.

Steph actually brings up the chuds noise blocking the actual news. Now that I think about it, it's VERY interesting how those types seem to emerge as if that was all the mattered with everything Ubisoft did wrong over the years, whereas people like Steph have been warning about this kind of thing happening for years.

Can't watch yet. But pleaseeeee tell me the "oh Ubisoft!" Gag is back. I miss that
Sadly no but I think Stephanie doesn't dress a lot of the issues that are being ignored by these morons who are focused on "Assassin's Creed bad! And other idiots

(Long rant ahead)

I think it was a random Yongyea reddit callout that he subtly started pointing jobs at the fact that the character wasn't a actual samurai somebody pointed out in his comment section that it doesn't matter he still was given the benefit of being a samurai.

See the problem with him and others is they're trying to dance on that line when he himself should know that Ubisoft should be in trouble for, you know, what James Stephanie brought up: the abuse of culture and taking advantage of the outright wearing people out when it comes to the actual development side...

And sadly much like the conclusion of the video the executives will be okay it's everybody on the ground floor that'll have to suffer cuz whoever buys it whether it be Tencent or they go private, there will be layoffs.

And the time of the developer that made Mario and Rabbids is definitely gone...

Finally watched the video over my lunch.

See, this is all news to me. I had no idea investors were having a lack of faith in Ubisoft coming off of Outlaws and the delay of Shadows. (I knew about the delay and that Outlaws performance was less than hopeful, but NOT about the investors). And the reason why I probably didn't know about it is because every single video I saw from other Youtubers I don't know and I assumed they were on some chud bullshit and I wasn't about to click on them and fuck my (ugh) algorithm. Thankful to have a source in Steph that I know doesn't dive into that, and am happy they pointed out the hijacking that occurs too whenever these things come to light.

I'm sure the topic has come up on ERA, but I don't dive into Ubi-centric threads often enough to really see it.

I'm definitely expecting some opinions on this. I will say in terms of games that give you "stuck" with them? I forget the mobile game but there was one thing I wanted to unlock in a particular game and if I would only take me a couple days..

Ended up visiting and playing the game for well over 3 weeks before I just got so frustrated I deleted it!

Oh god yes, I cringe when I hear CEOs talk about how "addictive" their microtransaction/RNG/FOMO heavy games are, like with calling people (many of whom have addiction problems) "Whales", it comes across as open gleefulness about exploiting vulnerable people for money. I wish the gaming community would not keep adopting the terminology of rich arseholes (speaking of, please don't make "Forever Games" the new catch-all term for GAAS games because it's just false, as proven time and again, their the most vulnerable to being deleted forever).
