I remember getting banned on another forum ages ago because I was hotlinking to stuff I had found on Somethingawful and they had changed the pictures to a close up of a dick ejaculating, and someone found the thread later and reported me for "porn"
Thanks. That's even easier than I thought it would be.On firefox, "Imgur-Uploader". You can link to your account so the image is saved there, and also turn on "Auto upload to clipboard" so that you immediately have the link copied and ready to paste.
iirc, tinypic was the one responsible for recycling in a whole lotta porn pics
I remember it being considered kind of rude way back when in the before times, but it's not something I've heard even mentioned in so many years I'd assumed hotlinking was no longer a war crime.I can't believe we don't have a rule against it. Think of all the poor websites losing those megabytes to some supposedly high minded forum that's really full of uncaring slobs!
Will this judgement directly impact the quality level of porn we'll have access to in our digital hereafter? What kids these days don't know is that when we die the internet god will judge each of us for out bandwidth stealing ways

Buffering eternal for the worst offenders.
It's the term people used a long ass time ago, I don't think I've seen anyone use it in probably ten years. Only crusty ass people that posted in forums back when Myspace was barely a thing would remember it.
Young People smh. You can't even imagine what the internet once was.
Mind you, this will be useful for adding to my evergreen gifsOn firefox, "Imgur-Uploader". You can link to your account so the image is saved there, and also turn on "Auto upload to clipboard" so that you immediately have the link copied and ready to paste.
Yeah but back then people would host them on their own website and they'd pay for the bandwidth, so anyone "hotlinking" from their website was essentially stealing their bandwidth.Guys, I'm 36. I had my own Geocities site and a 28.8k modem. Lol. Still not entirely sure what the term hotlink means here. Haha. Like, linking to an image/ GIF whenever it's hosted? Doesn't everyone do that all the time?
Wow, that's really impressive. Must use that going forward! On firefox, "Imgur-Uploader". You can link to your account so the image is saved there, and also turn on "Auto upload to clipboard" so that you immediately have the link copied and ready to paste.
Ah, I gotcha. So I guess, I mean, to answer the thread question, yes, I link to wherever I found the image/GIF. Lol. Always have. Ain't nobody got time to re-host.Yeah but back then people would host them on their own website and they'd pay for the bandwidth, so anyone "hotlinking" from their website was essentially stealing their bandwidth.
Its why people would make it so porn or other stuff showed up when people hot linked from their website.
Damn millenials and their socialist bandwealth redistribution. What kids these days don't know is that when we die the internet god will judge each of us for out bandwidth stealing ways
I've seen people still doing this recently even though it's easier than ever to rehost gifs. Unfortunately I haven't seen any hot linked images get swapped with porn pics in years. Those were the good old days. What a thrill. You felt alive hot linking your memes! So who is a dirty hot linking punk leaving broken urls all over the internet?
On firefox, "Imgur-Uploader". You can link to your account so the image is saved there, and also turn on "Auto upload to clipboard" so that you immediately have the link copied and ready to paste.
Am I having a brain fart or was anyone else thrown off by "hot link"? I haven't seen that term, I don't think. lol
what is rehosting exactly?
do you want people to download the gif and then upload it to other website, or what?
You don't need to set up an account if you don't want and if you change the setting to automatically copy to clipboard it's literally just a case of right-click on image and choose 'Upload to imgur' rather than 'Copy image location', and you can paste it straight into a post.On firefox, "Imgur-Uploader". You can link to your account so the image is saved there, and also turn on "Auto upload to clipboard" so that you immediately have the link copied and ready to paste.
Yes, that's pretty much exactly what the OP is suggesting. I think it's to do with being considerate of the image hosts bandwidth.
