So after the Smash direct recently is it still a port. Coz after E3 people and the smash community were saying it was a port or 4.5. So a question to ERA is smash Ultimate a new game or is it still are port.

Is Smash Bros Ultimate still a port?

What? No. It never was, but anyone still saying that now is just stubborn and doesn't want to admit they were wrong.
We got our first major gameplay change (meter final smashes) so that makes it less of one. Graphics and art style are still very sinilar though.
It's obviously a new game. The Switch isn't a major, groundbreaking generational shift over the WiiU, so the graphical leap isn't similar to something like Brawl to Smash WiiU. But in all other areas, including overall presentation, it's getting the same changes and improvements you'd expect from a Smash sequel
like how Monster Hunter World uses the same engine as Monster Hunter GU and Resident Evil: Revelations. blows my mind
It's not, but more of a compilation cartridge with extras. It's whatever. Great value for Smash fans. Who cares what it is semantically speaking
It's less of a port than a number of games that are were called sequels without anyone batting an eye.
How is this still a question? At this point you have to be actively avoiding any coverage of the game to think it's a port.
It's a port of all of the Smash Bros games and a Smash Bros game that doesn't exist (which is where the new content comes from), so I would say it's the Ultimate port.

I think the opposite, actually. There are fighting games with less changes that people would gladly describe as a sequel.
