Hacker's Memory is a relatively separate side story. There's character crossover, but it's more side characters. HM is really only for if you like the first one.

Localization/translation cant be as bad as The Legend of Heroes Garghav trilogy which I stomached through last year in a total of 120-150 hours between the three games.
