iPhone XS / XS Max pre-order thread - starts September 14, ships September 21

I'm trying to work out whether this deal is worthwhile or whether I should just go for the apple upgrade program + sim only.
It's in the UK with EE. Essentially it is 100 GB of data & an iPhone XS Max 256GB for £40 upfront £74 a month. That totals out at £1816 pounds or £566 (£23.5 a month) when removing the cost of the phone.
Alternatively I could go for the apple upgrade program but i'd need to get a sim only deal ontop of that. I'm not sure I can find anything better than the 100GB for 23 quid, especially seeing as EE's speeds are unrivalled here in London.
Any suggestions?

I am in the same boat. Mine says the same and I wasn't charged anything when checking out.

Even if it's just a week later (28th) I wouldn't mind, but I really hope I don't have to wait until October to get it. :(
My only other iOS device is my iPad Mini 2 and I've already downloaded all the apps I'll want on my XS Max as well as organized it how I'll want it on my phone so hopefully it'll sync everything over from iCloud.
Apple hasn't updated their site to say my Watch has shipped, but I used the UPS track-by-reference trick and confirmed it's on its way for Friday delivery.
I've done the Apple Store the last two times. It's a nightmare. The line never moves because people get their phone and are like "Hey salesman, can you just show me stuff on this phone for the next half hour?"
The last time, I was so relieved to get out that I left with both my new phone and my old phone, with neither party realizing it.

They hold it for you for that day, but when the store closes the reservations are reset.
You can always try calling ahead of time (it won't send you to the store first even if you call the store's number so say you need to talk to a manager or something) and see if they can do something.
Exactly! It was pretty damn expensive in Canada though - $1700 CDN. But worth it as it's the main thing I use in my life.
Which watch did you end up getting or you an analog only guy for sake of fashion?
I'm going to get the single tour Hermes (that's what I have now with my 42mm watch) so it's still decently fashionable (and the colour matches my Louboutin city shoes so I can get away with it being not as fashionable I think lol) but I don't know whether the 44mm is too big so I have to try them first but now it means I have to wait a month unless I line up or get lucky at the Hermes store instead :(

I went with the 44mm steel, which is also Cellular only. I've got a Hermes band for my current watch but might double down for another Hermes band.
Haven't felt the need to go for the full Hermes watch as I want it day one and use complications on my watch faces, and there are no other external indicator for it being a Hermes watch.
iPhone 8 is the best gold they've ever had. That gold/pink tint is probably my all-time favorite phone color.
I bought just the band originally to use with my Apple Watch Edition after, so never had the Hermes watch face.
But those watch faces look really good. I can always just switch between 2 - Hermes when just standard wearing watch and switch it to an Apple one when working out for example. My Hermes band has gotten a bit discoloured and beat up as I wear it every day (and haven't looked after it with water splashing on it every so often), so since I need a new band - may as well get Hermes edition. Plus it also comes with an Hermes orange sport band.
Will Apple Stores have screen protectors in-stock on Friday even though the website lists October 17th for in-store pickup/delivery? Can't remember if there was an actual shortage last year.

Well after ranting about the expense of the new iPhones and all that, I went ahead and ordered an XS Max.

Even with these financing options, the XS Max will be into the £70 range when you consider a monthly cost sim.
Prices are just outrageous in the UK, and I can't in my right mind pay that sort of money for a phone.
It looks like I'll be going with android for the next 2 years.

XS Max is tempting, but I went with the regular XS. Coming from an 8Plus. Wanted the slightly slimmer size

Might do that. I currently have 3 AYCE Data for £17 but its insanity paying that much for the sim only with phone starting at £41. Fingers crossed for something concrete.

Sim only you can get good options for £10-15. Yes it's expensive but less than operators will charge you
I'm coming from an iPhone 6 standard, with 16 gigs of space. I've been starved of storage for the better part of 2 years now. I've gotten so used to only being able to snap like 5-10 photos before hitting my storage cap...I even had google photos. I guess most of my space is take up by weird bloated apps (NYT App for example, whys that take up sooo much space??), and podcasts.
I snatched up a 64 gig Max, but am now sitting here wondering if I messed up. I don't want to hit that storage ceiling again. Felt like daily inventory management in an RPG. Part of me also thinks I'll inherently be more storage conscious though after living lite all this time.
Should I worry about this? 64 SEEMS like enough. I do like taking lots of photos.

I have a 128GB 7+ and I only use about 70GB of it. I have like 40GB of podcasts/music, the digital versions of Black Panther/Infinity War (6GB each) and about 2,000 photos (not all of them saved from the camera). I think you'll be okay with 64GB.
As long as you aren't planning on recording a ton of 4K videos or anything, 64GB seems perfectly fine. 256GB is just overkill. I only got it because downgrading to 64GB felt off to me. There's no way in hell I'll ever fill up 100GB on a phone.
If you've survived with 16GB, you'll be fine.
If I need pictures to save, I'll just use google photos honestly. But sometimes I feel iffy about deleting stuff off my iphone and saving them to google photos.
Will google photos save them in the same quality as they were taken on the phone?

No, which is why sometimes I'd like to really get the 256 gb just in case I do keep this phone for 4 years.
Use iCloud and set it to optimise photos. It'll keep them on device if possible (while backing up to iCloud), and replace them with smaller versions if your space gets low.
I'm not sure if I want to pay for iCloud but I guess it's cheaper than buying the bigger iPhone.
Im tempted to upgrade to the Xs Max from my LG G6. Ive never had an Apple phone. My wife has the 7 I believe. But man that Xs Max is gorgeous.
You have no way of backing them up to a desktop/laptop computer?
What is this trying to say? I load websites 4-5x faster? Surely that's fake as hell.
lol it's just about network speed tests, presumably because of the newer modem in the XS line.
Better modem would definitely provide better network speeds but I don't know if most people normally get speeds as low as the lows they are showing. Also network speeds are insanely variable so it's almost meaningless.
