So what are they doing in the meantime? Hitman 3 has content done right? Will they really release nothing until 2025? Or am I forgetting something?

I'm glad Xbox has held off on announcing Project Dragon (for now). The early announcements were getting ridiculous.
This news is exactly why Dragon hasn't been announced yet. It occupies a similar zone as Contraband and Diablo IV, so they will wait until those games are out and we are closer to Dragon launching before releasing. There's also the Monster Hunter-style game being made by Certain Affinity.

Makes sense.

I know I'll lose my shit whenever 007 is announced. There's some mad potential there with the kind of experience IO has.

Quite curious to see IOI's take on a medieval fantasy setting with dragons and stuff. 2025 seems pretty far away though, and that's probably the most optimistic release window.
When Jez first reported on Dragon, he wasn't even sure if the game had been greenlit. Clearly it has been now, but it probably started pre-production around the time Hitman 3 launched and they started their second studio. That was only a year or two ago. 5-6 years is pretty standard for big new IPs these days.

thats 3 fucking years from now?! did the 007 project not start over a year ago? and they will use the hitman 3 engine for that, right? 4+ years of development seems a bit much.
Eh? 4-5+ years of development is common for AAA sequels, never mind this game which will be a brand new property for IOI.

Only way it would be coming soon is if it was basically little more than a Hitman reskin, and they aren't going to do that.

Probably the last year on pre-production/concepting - coming up with their take on James Bond/story and all that - they were still hiring for senior roles on that game this year so don't think it really hit its stride til recently, new IP, all new assets etc... probably more ambitious than they were with Hitman graphically and mechanically, 2025 seems reasonable - though I kind of hopiumed that 2024 might be possible

Wait between Bond stuff is always a lot, at least I'm glad we're gonna get a game to keep us waiting for the next movie lol

Will Ana De Armas return for a brief cameo and double her Bond screentime?
Joking aside, her role in NTTD was low-key the best part of the film. I know there was some talk years back that Eon was thinking about a bond spinoff. A TV show or film about De Armas characters exploits could easily be the best thing from the Bond franchise since Casino Royale. At least it would be new and interesting

EON is notoriously difficult to work with as well. Best of luck to IO; I'm confident they can make a fantastic 007 game if they're allowed to do so.

You'd like to think that part of their contract allows for some creative license for IO and process for dealing with disputes fairly. You'd like to think.

I have wild dreams about what IOI can do with the Bond IP, if they can make a Hitman 3 + Alpha Protocol style of choice-focused sandbox game i will he in heaven

Mega excited for Project Dragon. Sounds right up my alley.

IOI never disappointed in the past so I'm confident that we'll enjoy a banger in 2025 or beyond. Shame that it'll take that long tho.

I'd definitely be down for more of that, yeah. I think Amazon are looking at Bond spinoffs now?

Not that surprising given that they're shifting away from the Hitman system that made the last few games of there's easy to develop on.

That said, not surprising given Covid, staffing, and the litany of other challenges game devs are now facing.

Apparently they loved IO's pitch, which was one where combat wasn't the driving force. Imagine a 007 game that's a suit only Hitman game and that already sounds far more interesting than the types of games this IP has devolved into.

IO's been given the green light to make their own Bond. It's not tying in with any film or actor. That's a pretty big creative get, isn't it?

Also unless I'm mistaken here, isn't IO working on a multiplayer game too? Is this Project Dragon?

Good, make it a proper late current-gen offering. I can't imagine how complex their worlds can be with SSD-as-standard target platforms.

It'll be worth the wait.

I swear I remember a thread, maybe a year or so ago maybe even longer where it was being speculated that Rockstar was working on a medieval game.

Found it:

Rockstar might be working on a new IP set in the Medieval time period

New rumours suggest Rockstar Games could be working on a brand new IP for the next-generation of consoles that's set in a European medieval time period. A now edited Linkedin post from Rockstar character artist Pawas Saxena point to Project Medieval - a title that was rumored to be shelved some...
