Makes sense. We only got an announcement that they've secured licensing to make a Bond game AFAIK.

Edit: Completely missed Project Dragon. Also makes sense given they haven't even announced it.

Whew. That is… quite a ways away. Hopefully the next few years don't do too much damage prior to release.

Sounds like their GP deal was a lump sum + "performance based" payouts

thats 3 fucking years from now?! did the 007 project not start over a year ago? and they will use the hitman 3 engine for that, right? 4+ years of development seems a bit much.

That is a long ass time. They should have a new Bond by then, so I wonder if they'll be modelled off whoever gets that gig.

My question is how they intend to sustain themselves until then? Will they continue with Hitman updates?

Thats the problem with codename leaks. The games are years away

It really doesn't. AAA games take a long time to make.

oh, I guess IOI has expanded to two teams then because I assume this is not being done by the Hitman folks.

Fantasy RPG does sound like something in my ballpark of interest!

afaik a lot of hitman/IO veterans are on the project

Why even mention stuff that won't be coming out for more than two years? So much shit can change in that time.

I guess it might be needed to explain where the money is being spent, maybe?

I'll wait. I want them to get it right and IOI making a Bond game is already an excellent choice and I want there to be good Bond games again.

They presumably announced that deal pretty close to when they inked it for recruitment purposes.

Leakers have talked about a GOTY edition of Hitman 3, but that's a long time until 2025. Here I thought we were getting Freelancer and maybe one more bonus level.

i know but i was under the impression that they pretty much re-skin hitman 3 and use that as a starting point for bond. i expected 3 years but not 4+.

Why were you expecting a reskin? Bond is not going to be stiff and they need to work on cinematic tools and upgrade their engine.

That's a lot of work and money they have to spend and 4+ years with COVID is normal.

They didn't really. Just telling investors to expect lower revenue/profits for the next few years due to long production cycles for their upcoming games, thus inferring Project Dragon & 007 are releasing after March 2025.

It's a press release for shareholders and authorities.

They have to show where are they spending their money.

Excited for 007, hopefully by the time it comes out we'll be on the way to having the next James Bond for the films after Craig.

Games take longer and are more expensive to make now. There's no way a successful Bond game would just be a re-skinned Hitman. It needs to be designed from the ground up.

It's really not that far. And it makes sense given when these projects were started and how ambitious they presumably are.
I understand how ambitious they are, it's just already worrisome that they are mentioning that this past year was boosted by a Game Pass deal, and that they are thin for the next couple of FYs. I'm sure it will be fine, I just don't want anything to knock the development off course for these projects, at least the 007 one could be truly amazing.

Or alternatively, by then EON has completely lost the plot and brings back Craig again, with an undead 007 who roams the Earth trying to find a way to finally die and find piece, all while driving around in the newest car by Aston Martin for some reason

IO will be fine. They will be getting significant funding from the EON and Xbox and they are continuing to support Hitman in the meantime.

Tell me you know nothing about how long it takes for a game to be made without telling me you know nothing about how long games take to be made.

That's the reality of indipendent AAA game development.

If you don't have a Live Service game running all year generating additional revenue you are going to keep going with thin revenue and margins for years until one big release.

I'm glad Xbox has held off on announcing Project Dragon (for now). The early announcements were getting ridiculous.

oh that's interesting, would like to see more but it looks like that's gonna be quite a ways off.

so are they all working on seperate projects?

Afaik no, but the Barcelona team looks to be the one leading Project Dragon since they hired one former CDPR lead game designer.

Quite curious to see IOI's take on a medieval fantasy setting with dragons and stuff. 2025 seems pretty far away though, and that's probably the most optimistic release window.
