crpg's are an incredibly niche genre. Combine that with the fact that it is the third installment in an old and relatively obscure franchise and there are your answersI continue to be unimpressed with the amount of players the games on Game Pass attract.
Let's say the game sold on Steam/XB1 300k. So out of the 15M(?) subscribers only 700k tried the game? And how many of those 700k played less than a hour before they decided the game isn't for them?
I mean.... 1 Million players being on Game Pass is that great?
I've been considering this one. Will I be out of my depth if I've never played a game like this before? Should I start from the remake of the first game?

I guess in principle this can work out for Microsoft because niche offerings might be exactly the thing that gets a certain type of gamer to subscribe to Game Pass. The numbers seem lukewarm for a AA game that has released across three platforms and that is available as part of Game Pass on two of them. But as flavour for Microsoft's first party, it sort of makes sense.
It is bugged but you need to have patience. I have played on PC. Sometimes menu doesn't appear need to restart the game. Even with gamepad option checked everytime I start the game need to go inside the options and select gamepad again to work. Small things they never patched. It's weird that so many people here mention bugs and the game being unplayable, I realize it's super anecdotal, but I played at release on X1X and aside from maybe two crashes, my 40+ hour playthrough was completely fine.

One of the later patches actually introduced bugs, like enemies turning invisible when using precision strike and one of the companions sliding along the ground without any animations.
Well this game is on Playstation as well, so how many players would they have had without Gamepass (Spoiler: way less than 1 million).I mean.... 1 Million players being on Game Pass is that great?
This is mostly trolling, but I can't say I disagree.I mean.... 1 Million players being on Game Pass is that great?

Yikes, so playing at release was probably the best option. That's counterintuitive.

Who cares how difficult it is? 1 million people showing interest in a game like this is amazing. The fact GP allows a lot of users access to these games which they probably wouldn't have bought if they cost 60$ is something every fan of the genre should be excited about. This is mostly trolling, but I can't say I disagree.
When 1 million people had to pay $60 for the game in order to get to 1 million players, getting there was a lot more difficult than when there are millions of people who have it included with Gamepass.
This is also a valid perspective.Who cares how difficult it is? 1 million people showing interest in a game like this is amazing. I swear, it seems like some people only care about games as compared to other games rather than the games themselves.
I feel better that we had exactly same bugs hahahahaYeah, sometimes the text disappears on the title screen and you think you're about to proceed to the menus, but nothing happens. It's just endlessly stuck at the scorpion screen.
As for the controller issues, that is especially annoying, because it actually let's you press A on the controller at the title screen, so things seem fine, but as soon as you switch to the menus, the controller stops responding and you have to get the mouse, go into the options and switch it back to controller again. Something happens in that transition, that makes it go from controller to keyboard/mouse.
Yeah it is there are exceptions but for every divinity there are a dozen wastelands or even pillars of eternity that don't sell gangbusters. There's been several multi million seller isometric rpg's lately though. It's not that niche.

I mean niche as in much smaller than blockbuster type genres like 3rd person shooters and first person shooters.Isn't that true of every genre though?
For every pubg and fortnite there's like 25 battle royale games that don't sell anything.
I mean, yes, the genre is much smaller than FPS, but... well I guess I'm not sure niche really applies to something that has sold many millions of copies worth of games in the past 5 years or so. Gaming si so big that even "niches" are pretty sizable.
But I guess you're right compared to other genres. It's niche, but in a modern way, not like "niche" was 10 years ago when it ment games were lucky to move a few hundred thousand.
No, don't start with the remake. While the series have some connections through the games, they are self contained enough that you can easily play 3, even if you haven't played the others, but the first game is from the eighties and require a different mindset to get into. Start with 3 as that's the most modern and easiest to get into. If you become a big fan after that, give the second game a chance, but be prepared that even that will require much more effort and will test your patience in various ways. It's also more budget constrained (as an example even smaller things like character portraits, might be recurring between different characters).
Only big fans of both 2 and 3 should attempt to play through the first game, because that is dated in an entirely different way.
