I recognize the sound of the silenced PP7 from GoldenEye in games, movies and TV all the time. Same with the alarm sound.
There's a stock monster sound that shows up constantly in games and othe media, but I never knew where it originated:
This is just the example that comes to mind but I hear it all the time.
I know this isn't what it's originally from, but I immediately think of Mass Effect whenever I hear this. (It's used in the "vision" Shepard keeps seeing throughout the first game, which gets played often enough to really get ingrained in the player's head.)

Every single one of those original Doom sound effects has been reused in so much media whether it be TV, feature films, other games... it's insane. The sound of an imp dying in Doom is also the sound of a camel used in Age of Empires 2.
The sound of the kids laughing when you boot up Diddy Kong Racing, I've heard it many, many times after that
I think I know the sound you're referring to, and I always assumed that the little thump at the end was the hardcover being plopped down after flipping to the desired page. It doesn't fit when just used to make a turning page audible, mind you. That's just how I always saw that sound playing out in my mind's eye whenever I've encountered it. Either that or someone bumped the mic at the end of the recording and never edited it out. 😆There is a sound effect in video games that always bothers me. It's the 'page turning' sound effect, I guess you would call it. It's the sound of someone flipping a page/piece of paper, followed by a 'thump'-like sound. I just want to know what that thump sound is supposed to be. I've heard this sound effect in Castlevania 64 (for sure) and I think Eternal Darkness. I can't find anything on the origin of this sound effect.
A lot of nes games share sound effects.
One of the earlier mission impossible films uses the rollercoaster tycoon crowd noise.

Ys' effect is unsettling. It's like it is in a minor key or something. It doesn't sound good.
Time stamped these bad boys for ya

Not just grunts: basically every type of sword strike sound effect, casting magic, enemies taking damage, the HP meter refilling, etc. was taken from Actraiser for Soul Blazer and later games. There's also the fairly infamous case of Soul Blazer using the same hero grunts as ActRaiser despite the main character looking like a kid by comparison.

There was one distinct stock scream sound effect that was used in a bunch of games in the mid-late 90s (no not the Wilhelm scream). I remember it specifically from the Lost World arcade machine. It was such a weird, silly, and over the top and it always jumped out at me when I heard it.

I can practically hear Mt. Woe in Chrono Rigger just by reading this post, lolI always remember the wind sound effect in ff6 is also used in chrono trigger. It may be in some other square RpGs from then too.
The laughs and screams in RCT 1 and 2 are used in a ton of movies, ads, etc...
pretty sure they didnt originate from there, they are all just using the same sound banks, but holy shit if every time i hear them i say "hey, thats from rct!" Lol
Like half the music from the NES and SNES eras was ripped off from other games, movies, and even mainstream popular music from major artists. Nintendo did it too. This Ys thing isn't just a sound effect, it's a musical phrase and holy shit is it ever a blatant Metroid ripoff. Can't believe Nintendo hasn't sued Falcom into oblivion over this.
Possibly the most random use of this one is throughout Mass Effect during the Prothean vision sequences.
That's because it's actually the sound of a Camel. The sound of an imp dying in Doom is also the sound of a camel used in Age of Empires 2.
They do that here too lmao. Always thought it was funnyI always hear the Sonic getting a ring sound at the gas station cash register. I know that is not what OP is asking, bit it came to mind.
Came here to post this. I hear it everywhere.I recognize the sound of the silenced PP7 from GoldenEye in games, movies and TV all the time.
The jingle also appears in Tetris Attack (also by IntSys)Maybe this counts? Battle Clash and Metal Combat for the SNES were both by Intelligent Systems and also had the same composer, so the tutorial from Metal Combat marks your progression with an early Fire Emblem jingle:
