so I'm in Austin for the next two days with lots of free time and need some suggestions.
Hoping for some outdoor, night life and food suggestions mostly.

You want to get food here you can't get elsewhere. So when people suggest hamburgers or other American food, I'd say you should skip that. Yeah, we have fine hamburger places, but so does just about every city in the country. Austin's unique foods are BBQ and Tex-Mex. I'd say you should go for those.
Tex-Mex: My favorite is Matt's El Rancho. They've got an amazing Steak Tampiquena that's one of the best steaks in the city (and without the steakhouse upcharge you'd have to pay). The Bob Armstrong dip is also amazing. Of course, their standard entrees are also fantastic. I also recommend the Knockout Martini.
BBQ: Franklin's BBQ is definitely the best. You'll need to stand in line early, but it's really cold right now so the line will be shorter (only 1-2 hours) on a weekday. La Barbecue is an alternative that is quite good as well - it still has a wait though. If you want to skip the wait, Terry Black's BBQ is by far the best. It's delicious and can't be beat except by the two mentioned above.
For things to do, most of it is outdoors and unfortunately it's quite cold. If you don't mind that, you can rent a kayak on Lady Bird Lake, which is right next to downtown and pretty fun. There's also some alright hiking locations nearby, though you shouldn't expect national park quality or anything. Perdenales Falls and McKinney Falls are probably the highlights.
What you shouldn't do is go to the Alamo Drafthouse, which some people might suggest. It's expensive, extremely mediocre and not much better as a theater experience than anything else.
Not to derail but do you live under a rock? Do you really believe the words you just typed? Go back and reread your post? You think you can only get Tex-Mex and BBQ in Austin?

Gordoughs unique donut menu. The food truck closed down but their public house seems to have most of the same items.
lol we stopped by the food truck sober, what's supposed to happen?

Their original truck on S 1st is still open.Gordoughs unique donut menu. The food truck closed down but their public house seems to have most of the same items.
But sure, have him go to Hopdoddy, a chain restaurant that makes burgers similar to what you'd find in literally every other major city in the country, and probably across Canada, Europe and Australia as well. What a thrilling experience that'll be.
Ah I see, if that's the case then OP probably shouldn't go to the Public House.Oh the food truck was apparently different. I never had it. The Public House's food is greasy to an extreme and doesn't taste good. If you're drunk, you can't tell and the awesomeness of having donuts in all of your food ensures you can have fun. I'm sure they exist, but I don't know anyone who likes the Public House sober beyond "it was fine."
Thanks for the info, didn't know this was the case. Go to this one instead, OP!Their original truck on S 1st is still open.
As a meat/cheese/bun kind of person, Hopdoddy's has to be one of the most disappointing burger joints I've been to.
I found La Barbecue to be average. I've had better barbecue in Chicago.
I got the ribs which were overpriced, did I mess up?
Sitting at the floppy disk repair company now. Lovin it
Dang. I must have missed the memo.
At a spazmatics show now. They're fantastic
Every BBQ territory has their specialty and in Texas it is Brisket.
I like La Barbacue but Franklin's is the best if you can wait for it.
Pulvos and Matt's El Rancho are both great mexican choices in my opinion.
I reccomend the Elephant Room a lot for people in the nighlife side. Its a Jazz club downtown.
You won Austin if you saw the spazmatics.Dang. I must have missed the memo.
