I'm sorry, but I think it's a bit crazy that they can't be bothered to even do a summary write up of the biggest FGC event of the year. I can and will read about this stuff at other outlets, but I think it's fair to ask why a site about games isn't even paying the smallest amount of attention to a massive gaming event. Dude, not even ONE article or post. Come on.
The only reason I care honestly is because Polygon is the only gaming website that is not blocked at my place of work, so it's the only one I occasionally check out while I'm at work. They never used to be so narrowly social justice focused, they always had that leaning sure, but in the past I would have expected them to cover Evo (!) and not this fucking Alex Jones bs.
I think we passed the point long ago when a single outlet is burdened with the responsibility to be Everything for Everyone.
Think about how Jeff Gerstmann of Giant Bomb compares his modern job description to his GameSpot days. 10 years ago GS had staff reviewing and covering almost everything that released, inc. trash games that no one even cared about. It was part of the business model. Today, Gerstmann & co. hardly do reviews at all. They cover what interests them personally and have done away with perfunctory "just because" coverage of games and genres they're not invested in.
Perhaps "mega-outlets" will continue to deal in bulk coverage. That's cool. But Polygon, Waypoint, Giant Bomb, and more are more specialized & nuanced in their coverage. Finding unique angles to view the medium through. They're a valuable asset to the landscape.
There's no right or wrong to it. There's a place for both your IGN's and you Polygon's. But neither is beholden to keep pace with each other's production or focus. They're just doing their own thing.
It's obvious you're not looking for Polygon's coverage style. Maybe you should just move on. It's unfortunate that your work gives you limited access, but that's hardly Polygon's fault.
Have you tried getting network access on your phone at work? Sometimes the sites they block on your work PC are different than anything they'd block using your mobile devices.
Good luck!
