Izanami reminds me of Doctor Strange, Dormammu and the Time gem.

Imagine being stuck there forever.
The funny thing is: Izanami was built to force the opponent to change his ways. Imagine if it wasn't and it just plain trapped the opponent into a loop forever?

I also love how Itachi was still able to genjutsu Kabuto into performing the Edo Tensei Release seals while he was still under Izanami.

Sharingan has by far the most Deus Ex Machina moments that I have ever seen in any show.

That being said, some of the earlier abilities were actually okay, but the later ones were all pretty bad and ridiculous.

Gaara kept his sand ability after he had no tailed beast. Shippuden's first arc set the precedent.

So yeah, basically Itachi changed him against his will?

Gaara keeps the sand ability but it's not "alive" like it was before where it would just defend him without him having to consciously do it.

That explanation has been confirmed in Boruto.
This explanation has been consistent throughout the manga. Sharingan always develops through intense emotion. Before the time skip, Sasuke was saying how he had to kill Naruto to get the Mangekyou Sharingan.

One thing I am looking forward in Boruto is Sarada's case. It has been revealed that the Uchiha stone was edited by Black Zetsu to put them in a path in which they became tools for him.

What if the "despair" thing is a misdirection that was bought by the Uchiha and everyone else and the Mangekyou can be obtained without negative feelings? I bet Itachi would feel like a complete idiot for mindraping Sasuke.

Earth, 21st Century
sharingan should have been left as a byakugan offshoot/mutation that allowed one to "predict/anticipate/read" moves provided your physical capacity and skills allowed you to keep up. everything after that was crazy.

actually, that whole manga/story went left field when brehs started getting landscape levelling upgrades out of nowhere left and right. The story, fights, and tension were at their best when its power levels were in check and smaller in scale. Zabuza fight is still a contender for Goat. Itachi vs Kakashi & Kurenai was great too. mostly taijutsu, bunshin feints, speed feats and other misc small jutsus (genjutsu iirc) that focused mostly on "skill". then Kishimoto opened pandora's box with that mangekyo shit and it was over

on a side note, remember that time sasuke randomly got a new summon and zetsu was like "erm i when did he make that summoning contract?" and shit was never mentioned again lmao
That gritty, down-to-earth ninja feel in the early series was the best. When they still did hand seals...

When even simple taijutsu felt visceral and effective (excuse low quality gif)...

When simple ninja tools were more prevalent, deadly, and threatening, and even ordinary enemy ninjas seemed like they could end someone's life in an instant...

The power escalation happened too extremely and too fast. The original Sharingan's copying abilities were nearly forgotten by the end, as well.

Hand seals died a quick and painless death once the world went to shit and all the wild bloodlines and specialists entered the mix. There's no need for traditional handsigns when Early Timeskip Naruto can destroy you on a cellular level with a long-range Rasen-shuriken and Sasuke's Ameterasu can roast 99% of his foes with a glance.

In a perfect world, Kimmimaro never died from his Ninja Sickness and he showed up every so often to beat somebody's ass. How do you deal with someone that willingly pulls out their own spine to fuck *you* up? You don't.

Imagine the bullshit Boruto and Sarada's kids are gonna be able to pull off. Adult Sasuke is one of my favorites now though he has the best abilities and fights. Glad he didn't get killed off.

Remember when Haku was cool because he could do handsigns with one hand?

One thing I like about Boruto right now is, despite not quite having the gritty down-to-earth feel, the fights have gone back to being closer to Part 1. Most of the taijutsu sequences have been downright incredible thanks to the animators actually being trained in martial arts, and the characters are back to using hand seals and ninja tools again. We've seen a wide variety of puppets, kunai, swords, staffs, scrolls, and such used, and it FEELS good.

Even when they escalate the fights for whenever Naruto or Sasuke fight, there's still a weight and feel to them that late Part 2 Naruto mostly lacked. See: Sasuke pulling out the ninja tools for the Momoshiki fight.

Sarada is also making the Sharingan awesome again. None of the Mangekyō Sharingan stuff we saw in late Part 2, just pure ability copying, reflexes, and clever genjutsu usage.

Haku totally slipped my mind. For a 15 year old hanging around someone like Zabuza, he was doing pretty well for himself. Too bad he had the misfortune of coming across...
