Help me get into the Devil May Cry Series, in which order should I play the games?

I would say play them all in release order.

I had only played DmC and loved it.
Now I went through DMC1, DMC2 and I'm playing DMC3 now. So far DmC is my favorite.

Thanks for the quick replies. How do DMC1-3's gameplay hold up? Do they translate well to modern gameplay standards.

Also is the Ninja Theory one really that bad? I heard it was designed to be more friendly gameplay wise to Western audiences. Is this true?

So far DMC3 is holding well considering its age. DMC1 was rough for me.
Please, give DmC a chance.

Might as well play the first one even if you don't end up enjoying it as it's only like 5 hours long anyway. 2 is the only one I'd skip, personally. DmC is very good so I wouldn't skip it even if though it's separate from the rest.
