Has there ever been a modern Dracula film as good as Bram Stoker's Dracula?

It remains my favourite modern Dracula film. Are there any modern films which can challenge it?



The only films I've seen which come close or surpass it are the Hammer films, which are classic unto themselves.

Specifically Dracula or Dracula adjacent? I like Cronos which is a Dracula like movie. For a Dracula specific movie, yeah, Bram Stoker's Dracula is a lot of cheesy fun. Gary Oldman is great in it.

Either. That movie made me a fan of Gary Oldman for life. Every time I watch it it never loses its fun vibe.

I'm am an unashamedly huge fan of Van Helsing. The overly dramatic lightning, the accents, the set designs, the whole thing is just so... fun.

No, this one was a few years earlier, and a one-off film rather than a series. Marc Warren (who's mostly well-known for TV) starred, and it also had Stephanie Leonidas from Mirrormask.

Keanu almost ruins it. But Oldman, Hopkins, the effects, and espicially the score put it over the top.

Not the most recent, actually it's 40 years old (I'm old) but the Dracula from John Badham is one of the best version of the vampire myth

For a serious answer, then no, I think the Coppola Dracula is awesome. If we take Dracula out of the equation and just make it vampires in general, then the original Blade, 30 Days of Night, Fright Night (both original and remake) and What We Do In the Shadows are all really good in different ways. Stake Land is also pretty good.

Bram Stokers Dracula is not only the best version imo, it's also one of my favourite films. Some of it feels over the top campy, but that just adds to it.

What we do in the shadows is a comedy, its very funny, and just got a spinoff show thats equally as funny

Oh yeah hat one is indeed really good. It's a very nice spin on the Dracula formula. Also Nosferatu has always been scarier than Dracula. Also Willem Defoe and John Malkovich can compete with Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins

Right? I love the movie in spite of it being awful in some places. Largely a tea shade glasses wearing pimped out Gary Oldman just kills it in the movie.

I remember seeing this in the theater when it came out, and being blown away by the opening sequence, and then stunned at how bad I thought the rest of it was. But I should give it another look at some point. The Hammer films are my all time favorite Dracula films.
