Doesn't matter that it's VR. It's an amazing game and one of the best I've played in the last decade or two even.
You had to buy a PlayStation to play The Last of Us when it won GotY, too. Some games are just gonna be on their own platforms and require specific hardware every once in a while. One year it'll be a PS, the next it'll be a Nintendo, the next it'll be VR. Nothing wrong with that. Judge them on their own merit and not on their ability to reach a wide audience.
Off topic, but VR got 2 of my family members into gaming. Period. The last time they played any video games was on Wii, and then maybe an Atari when they were new. I call that a win.
Valve needs to combine their Linux Steam efforts with a standalone headset with the ability to play games like Alyx. Playing it this year with the Oculus 2 wirelessly was a pretty mindblowing thing to behold.
