To be fair, it's hard because there are two entities labeled THQn at play here.

But I'd say we're more responsible to keep the reminder alive that this company actively engaged in a place that harms children. If you don't want to associate with that, you better put your hands up and explain how your particular part in that company aren't involved (as others have done so), but I'm not willing to be silent just so people can enjoy their video games guilt free.

If THQn comes up, this will come up, and that's how it should be until appropriate action is taken. Full stop.

There are better ways than calling developers for pedos. That's entirely the wrong way to go about it. Full stop. There's no defense good enough to justify that here, no matter what some THQ arsehat execs did.

To be fair, grinding for an achievement should be expected, these are made for completionists, if you just want to beat the game you don't have to do it.
I don't think that justifies an achievement that's just bad and not fun to accomplish. I've always been of the opinion that achievements should be tied to doing sick rad shit. An example of what I mean is the achievements in Mirror's Edge that you get for pulling of complex and precise maneuvers.

On the other end of things we have achievements like those in the souls series, games I love, where you get your achievements by progressing through the game or doing something mundane like leveling a weapon fully through the different upgrade material trees. It's just not fulfilling in any way.

Obviously the former example is much harder to do, and that's why many games have grinding achievements or progression achievements, but that's why I think making achievements be required for your game on most consoles was a bad move.

Yes, as I said.

However, also as I said, if THQn is involved, juvenile kneejerk response or otherwise, expect this to come up.

OP -- I have two opinions on this:

1.) It was extremely lame of them to block you in this case. You didn't curse them or use expletives or slurs, etc

The most they might have done is maybe just not respond back, but definitely does not warrant a block.

2.) Regardless if they have been patching farming spots or overpowered stuff, Achievements are not necessary. And you shouldn't feel like you need to do one if you think it's specifically a badly designed one. I never go out of my way to do any tedious achievement

To add, if the grinding really is as bad as you say OP, cheat engine is right there for you.

I disagree

Developers can design whatever Achievements they want. In fact if I was a game dev, I wouldn't give a rat's ass about the achievements and what people thought. I find it really weird those players who take them so seriously

Extremely bad answer from them. What the hell? I was looking into purchasing this game on 20 bucks on a future sale, but if it's a grindfest, they patch farming, and then they're extremely douchebags like that then I won't even bother.

Getting to level 100 is in no way necessary to beating the game, it's just a (really lame, granted) achievement; The game's more than doable without needing to grind, especially, I presume, if you're not on a higher difficulty.

To be fair, getting back to the topic at hand, you did sort of come across as saying, "man this is fruitless and mindless, a real definite flaw and something that should be fixed. Do you guys have any advice on how to cheese this so I don't have to waste my time?"

I'm not saying that that was your direct tone or meaning, but that's definitely how it looks. Twitter is no place for nuance.

Not to say that their response was great, but if it were me, my response would have been no response. OR...a link to gamefaqs or something.

I can kinda see your point. But, to me, cheesing always meant finding a flaw in the game to essentially cheat and beat a difficult part. Maybe im wrong on that. These farming spots im talking about are just running around in circles getting enemies to respawn and killing them. They patched them so the enemies stop spawning. There are so many accessibility options in the game, that there is really no need to even get to 100, unless you want the achievement or play on the highest difficulties maybe. There are several difficulty options and even an option to change playstyle. You can change it so its more similar to the first 2 games or you can choose the default one the game launched with. On my first full playhthrough of the game, I played through on the hardest difficulty available at the time, using farming spots for quite a bit of time, I was able to reach level 55. Now halfway through the game on my NG+ run I was at like 58. I just dont see what they intended here

To add, if the grinding really is as bad as you say OP, cheat engine is right there for you.

Unfortunately I am on xbox, so thats not an option.

I don't know it does seem like a game design flaw if there is no fun way to reach a certain level to get an achievement. Gamers finding a quicker way to grind isn't some new thing.

If the developers have been patching out good farming spots, they're probably getting hateful tweets from angry gamers left and right. They probably have very little patience for that kind of thing at this point. In a vacuum, the criticism in your second tweet isn't horrible, but if they're being hit by an onslaught of negativity, they probably thought it was too much for them to put up with.

LOL so Gunfire Games is a "You cheated not only the game, but yourself..." kind of developer?

But in all seriousness I think all companies need to attend a PR seminar/TED Talk called "Sometimes just shut the hell up ya know? Like, it's not realistic to reply to every tweet and email in the first place so know when to not."

Their response legit sounds like
You cheated not only the game, but yourself.
You didn't grow.
You didn't improve.
You took a shortcut and gained nothing. You experienced a hollow victory. Nothing was risked and nothing was gained. It's sad that you don't know the difference.

Lol I almost wish this was the response, at least I would of laughed

They really should of just not replied at all if this is all they had to say

Why would I back down when they reply with something like that. If they didn't owe me a response, then they shouldn't have replied at all. Instead they replied with a condescending tweet. I bought their game and dlc and supported them day 1. This isn't the way they should reply to people who play their games. How hard would it be for them to say anything helpful at all.

Eh, to me it seems they blocked you because your attitude was like "y'all don't know how to design achievements", and I don't think they have to entertain any random person who has that attitude towards them.

I agree with you OP, whoever is working Gunfire Games Twitter didn't handle your questions well.

Because nothing helpful was going to come of it. They clearly expressed to you that they didn't care, unfortunately, so pressing the topic further wasn't going to get anywhere. They already have your money, and they're condescending on Twitter; might have to think twice before going in on their next project.

Nah, fuck that. OP was right pushing back, their initial reply was rude as hell. Who gives a shit if he gets blocked by some random dev?

I hear you, but it's a situation where it's Twitter, not a customer service line. They bared their ass to someone asking a legit question that whoever handles the account probably couldn't answer anyway. They are, in fact, some random dev, so who cares what they have to say? If they're gonna be childish, engaging further isn't going to do anything positive. They (the dev) shouldn't have responded at all if they didn't have a good answer, of course, so expecting anything good after that is wasted energy, in my opinion.

Can someone explain gunfire games's relation to the game and THQN? I don't know the story there (obviously know the THQN 8chan story)

That was unprofessional behavior.
Reminds me of Cliffy B and how he blocked me at the start of this generation simply because I asked him one Question. Are you gonna work on a new exclusive with MS?

Blocked :D

Gunfire is the new form of Vigil(who made the first 2 darksiders), I believe a lot of the key people moved there from vigil. And now gunfire made darksiders 3. THQN is the publisher, but the 8can stuff happened after darksiders 3

Are you showing the whole message chain, or are you leaving out the parts where you were badgering them about it?

Because the latter is usually how these things shake out.

It takes like five seconds to check if there's anything more at all to the conversation (there isn't):

But of couse that would be five seconds looking for something online, when you could spend them throwing shade at someone for no reason instead, and who could possibly resist doing the latter?

Developers always say they want to interact with their customers but any feedback always seems to fall on deaf ears. Randy Pitchford blocked me yesterday when he asked what platform we were going to play borderlands 3 on. I said I couldn't support them after the EGS issue, and even apologized for it. He gave me a snarky ass answer and blocked me. Lol like wtf? I wasn't rude, I didn't say anything inflammatory, I answered the question he asked. If you don't want people to answer you honestly then don't ask. For all the y'all about gamers being entitled, these guys sure are thin skinned bitches.

I mean I don't like Pitchford at all either, but I'm pretty sure he was asking to those people who *ARE* going to buy BL3

not those who are not buying the game

its ok if you dont like their game and you're not entitled to them wanting to talk to you about how bad you think (a part of) their game is indefinitely.

Gonna side with OP here. Grinding levels isn't even an achievement, it's just work. This thread actually has me thinking about making a thread on achievement design again and how poorly thought out it is by most developers.

Then im apparently not even entitled to an answer to a legitimate question, because they didnt answer me to begin with. I clearly liked the game as I was on a second playthrough

I would be a regular in that thread, and I would write an essay about overwatch achievements.

Whined about optional activity in game directly at developers, got blocked. What gives? They probably get hundreds of these a day, and blocking can stop people from doing it over and over.

lol

asking a legitimate question is whining now. Guess nobody should ever reach out to developers then unless you are 100% praising them.
