The "play now" button on youtube and keep playing on every device is really nice if it works
Yes. People keep bringing up GDC, but as a pitch for developers (especially those watching from abroad) this presentation was lacking too.
We have a lot of questions, and they didn't come close to answering them.
yup. which makes the "its not E3, it's GDC" posts even more bafflingYou cn have to assume devs are gonna be asking a lot of the same questions we are. Seems like Google should have anticipated this kind of skepticism and been ready to tackle it.
The fact that they didn't share any latency numbers of this platform is a huge red flag.
Apparently the shifted from local fights with municipalities for pole access to taking a federal approach to mandate pole access across the board. If they win that way, they may well come back in force.
And the difference between this and NVidia Go + Shield is...................................?
but it wasn't for customers, it was for developers I thought. why lie to them?
they acted as if they were totally blind to the downsides of streaming in the presentation, what do you want from us
I found the "every device" kinda disingenuous because doesn't have to be a Pixel phone or Google tablet...?

People are a bunch of negative whiners here.
Yes, it's a streaming service (we all anticipated this). Which means your internet will have to be kinda good. You knew that in advance, so stop whining about it. If you don't like it, don't use it. Seriously.
If Google can deliver on this 4K, 60FPS, lagless streaming, why the FUCK would you still say: "this was so boring omg where iz the gamez". Grow the fuck up. This stuff is super interesting and whether you like it or not, it's the future.
but before they invest they'd want answers to this fundamental questions, which the presentation doesn't answer.
I'm getting same vibes I got when I saw the Ouya for the first time and a lot of people were hyped for it.
It just doesn't give you that good feeling in your gut, if you saw a neat game and it ends with, "Launching on Stadia" you aren't going to be excited you are going to be bummed maybe? It doesn't have that HIT feel. Which matters a lot.
The impact of having your game launching on PLAYSTATION 5, is much more impactful. I don't feel like they EARNED it enough to be the next game platform, they are getting a bit ahead of themselves. And you can't play the Cocky roll where you are comparing yourself to others stating, "WE ARE LIKE A PS4 AND AN XBOX COMBINED" until you have earned that respect.
This tech is the future, just not now and just not with Google.
Maybe in the US. Don't know how infrastructure is developed there. But here in Europe I don't think so. I mean there are villages near me that are limited to 1mbps down. And this isn't some rural ass region. Like they never even beta tested this shit outside the US. Project Stream was US only.
Microsofts/Sonys way of approaching this with both a console AND a streaming service is way more realistic.
Newer Android TV's have Chromecast built in so I imagine that it will.I'm disappointed they didn't make a new product that works well with TVs. I have no desire to buy a Chromecast.
but before they invest they'd want answers to this fundamental questions, which the presentation doesn't answer.
Bummer... Anyway my internet is too shit so it doesn't really matter
the reason people are asking about games is because the idea itself has enough fundamental problems that people want meaningful games to make putting up with those problems worthwhile.People are a bunch of negative whiners here.

Also to be expected
Highlighting that at all is going to be a negative, and if the average Joe doesn't know about it then it can't be seen as a downside
I'm definitely interested in streaming technology, I was mainly referring to google jumping in on it. Why should we care that Google is trying to get into this business when we know that the tried and true platforms will likely be going there before long too?I made a stupid long post about why I'm interested in Game streaming in another thread:
https://www.resetera.com/threads/pr...ng-business-model.106083/page-5#post-18967643
The over-simplified tldr is mostly "It's very difficult to think of how things change when the paradigm changes, but once the paradigm changes, it's very difficult tot think about something before that paradigm changes." I don't know if Google's offering will change the paradigm -- like how Netflix, Spotify, Maps, Drive, etc changed paradigms in those areas -- but I think game streaming in general has a lot of opportunity to introduce new concepts into gaming that we're not able to comprehend now.
The one I come back to the most that has a lot of value for me, someone who loves playing games but has less and less time to play games, is truly responsive gaming... Going from one device doing one thing, to another device in the same game where maybe I continue to do that same thing I was doing on my TV, or maybe I do something else but still actually in the game. That's something very common today with movies, websites you visit, news you consume, ways you chat with your friends, etc., but it's not something gaming really tries to do at all. I think there's real opportunity to introduce new ways to play the same games we play today, but in different ways.
if they already have all of the devs they need, what's the point of the presentation?I guess Epic and Unity and all the other devs already working on it were bamboozled
someone in easy allies defined it perfectly "It wasn't a presentation for gamers nor developers it was for suits"
This pseudo socialist messaging by one of the (imo) most devious megacorps in the world really pissed me off. They talked big about their tech but that image someone posted about 133ms lag on a 200mbps connection ... like lol, I don't think any ISP is even offering anything past 100mbps around here. This will probably take off the same way the first Google glasses did.
Oh God, I really hope there is at least an option for a console with a disc drive. I really don't want to wait several days for a game to download (that's about how long it would take to download a 60GB game on my network). I really don't want asinine shit like this gatekeeping me from playing new games. The thing with this Streaming future is, people are JUST coming around to digital only (downloading games to your console). I think the first step is having a full digital console (like the no disc drive Xbox and if PS5 does it as well), then I think after that people would be more receptive to a Streaming Only platform.
This will be a nice side-concept, but if they are thinking they will steal the main play space they are wrong.
Hundreds of millions of viewers/customers seems pretty in touch to Google's wallet.
Or were paidI guess Epic and Unity and all the other devs already working on it were bamboozled
Then they will have a hard time selling this. Cuz high end console gamers are usually the ones using wired and fast internet conections for gameing. Any casual using crappy hardware or mobile are happy with wifi in a cheaper more slow interent.
There is a downside to absolutely everything ever released; you really don't expect a presentation to cover that do you?
