10% cut of a $400 import is $40 cut in taxes. In reais: 200. So it'd bring the price from 5k reais to 4.800 reais. Same discount a purchase in cash would give you.
BUT retailers NEVER cut prices at a 1:1 ratio to tax cuts: they always pocket some. So this ridiculous move will take R$100 (US$20) from a price that has jacked up more than $300 because our currency has the worst devaluation in the world BECAUSE of Bolsonaro.
So he fucked us with the literal duplication of the price and now he chips off a small part to be a populist.
And that means LESS revenue for the federal government, already grasping at straws.
Also this:
Good news my ass. Prices won't change, the margin is virtually nothing.
This move has two purposes:
1 - Give companies more money
2 - Make people say things like "Good news for Brazilians regarding next-gen prices!" with literally no basis in reality
Edit: to give some perspective to our fellow non-brazilians:
PS4 at launch cost
4x monthly min. wage - official stores
2x monthly min. wage - grey mkt
- PS5 at launch (with 2 tax cuts) cost
5x min wage - official price
4x min. wage - grey mkt
I'd pay R$ 150 for a pre-order on PS4. Now R$ 350.
Wage is the same.
