The only way the camera is a negative is if there is no option to not purchase a box without it. That is really where MS made a mistake with the Xbox one. I really couldn't care less if sony and ms want to have a camera option, there better be a sku that doesn't have it that I can purchase because I want nothing to do with streaming and or vr.
Might be a bundle or an accessory to purchase. Kids especially these days are into the streaming fad.

You said people are forgetting the article mentioning PS5 having a camera, which they are not (and I explained why).
PS5 having a camera isn't news, it needs to have it.
On the other hand people are curious about Scarlett having a big camera focus, for obvious reasons.
Let us cover up the camera easily with a slider or something and also if it has a microphone let us remove it
Theres more jokes about kinect 3 and mattricks xbox one kinect inclusion, but the leak says the ps5 dev kit has a camera too, so it's not like the joke is inclusive to scarlett.
U don't know PS5 needs a new camera, PSVR2 could use inside out tracking, and the article says its because of youtube and streamers, does not sound like a VR camera.
The PS4 camera isn't VR specific. The first thing people used it for is streaming.
That 3D render of what the PS5 could look like by LetsGoDigital is just silly. It says SSD Drive, when the D stands for Drive. Solid State Drive Drive? It has CD player like buttons near it, and it shows a disc drive. Whoever made this has no idea what an SSD even is.
Not sure why MS is focusing on the camera, unless it has something do with VR. Surely they wouldn't try something similar to Kinect again.

Not sure why this is surprising. With MS trying to grow Mixer and Sony with PSVR, having a good camera will be pretty important.

And we don't know what the Xbox's camera is for, it certainly doesn't stop all the "lol Microsoft what are you doing? Kinect 3.0!!!!" hot takes.
Prospero is a terrible codename but that's good that they're getting the mistakes out of the way early
Those camera features sound like they're more software-based than anything else. I'd place bets on both companies just throwing something in with dev kits so developers incorporate features.

those are the reasons to have a camera
Just an FYI as this is dev kit stuff; all PS4 games require checking for voice recognition from the OS and are tested accordingly. This may not mean PS5 ones are bundled in on the consumer side, as with PS4.
I'm sure the camera is optional and part of a push for streaming. MS has Mixer and watch Sony start their own next gen too and likely why MS is investing more since Mixer has decent reach now while Sony would just be starting.

It's for streaming. It sounds like Microsoft is building out an extensive suite of tools to make console streaming easier and far better.
Sony is part of the Blu-Ray Disc Association, but they still shipped PS4 (even the Pro!) without UHD compatibility.
