I'm somewhat surprised and thankful for their response. I expected them to make a passing comment with maybe a small discussion on it on the beastcast like they've done with other issues. So it's nice to see them speak up since many white streamers or youtubers I've followed in the past continuously reveal themselves as shitheads. Giantbomb is one of the few that haven't.

Yes, this is a major factor in what makes it feel like this is completely unprecedented. It's not. Death Metalist posted that clip from the ending of No Country For Old Men and it really is apt. "What you got aint nothing new."
It's certainly hitting a boiling point now, but in the '60s shit was probably worse. It just wasn't possible to be exposed to literally all of it at the same time like it is now. I really think it's super damaging to mental health. No one should be exposed to all of it at once, possibly 24/7.
None of this is to downplay how incredibly fucked shit is btw. But PoC in America (and almost everywhere) been dealing with this shit and worse for actual centuries.
It's wild how without fail the people responding with "All Lives Matter" have a super generic profile picture and a bio that talks about being a patriot, ex-military or their religion. I don't know if the bots are out in droves or the right really is just a bunch of walking stereotypes.

Not that I disagree with it being probably worse in the 60s with regards to racial violence and riots and such (it definitely was), but I do think that 2020 is going to be one for the history books in any context. Riots + pandemic + recession is...basically unprecedented unless I'm forgetting some early year in American history. Even without social media the sheer relentlessness of bad things happening is just turning everyone's mental health into mush

or how the comic and short story that revealed two characters as being gay (with such vagueness that the lead writer needed to confirm it on twitter) simply were not published in certain territories (russia, china), nor is their queerness actually present in game at all
or how most of the female characters are posed and animated with broken spines so their butts stick out more
or how it's taking the sequel to get its first playable black woman hero

the lore and world building are a joke, but the art direction and just general quality of the visuals helps to mask it (remember how their mexico map was based on photos of a town that is actually in italy? lmao)

This year has been so weird. Waking up today and realizing the year is nearly half over was insane. I hurt my back in late January so I started working from home while it healed, and then by the time it was healed up the quarantine had began. So i've legitimately spent most of this year in my apartment, and it has led to it simultaneously being a blur since every day is so similar, but also the year has felt super long because of the world's events.
It's a super weird contradictory feeling, where two months ago feels like an eternity ago but somehow the individual days still feel like they take no time at all, but I empathize.
