guy working at a cafe near where I live is a COVID denier. he says it's all fake and just a tool for the government/illuminati to control us. I was already tired of going there and the lockdown helped.

It's been a constant fight against the sheer stupidity of people.

I swear if I have to see one more "Flu is deadlier" post, I'm gonna scream.

To top it off you now have the conspiracy theorists who are trying to tie it into 5g wireless or as a Chinese engineered bioweapon. Real Alex Jones type shit

QAnon has cracked the code

Don't worry though, our fearless leader will save us!

What in the fuck? I'm not even sure where to start with this. Let's accept the premise that covfefe was somehow code for a virus that wasn't even on the map when it was posted. They're basically saying Trump was providing a vague warning about an outbreak but did literally nothing to stop it beyond some misspelled tweet. I mean god damn these people are fucking dumb.

Already dealing with them. But people seem extremely sick of them and they get shut the hell up sooner than ever before.

The big one I keep hearing is that we all already got the virus back in December.
My inlaws keep saying this also. "We had it back in December. We felt terrible and like we were going to die, but we got over it. People are making a big deal out of nothing"

Even if you did have it ( you didnt): You JUST SAID YOU FELT LIKE YOU WERE DYING. How are people blowing this out of proportion if you felt like that? The sheer ignorance and pretentiousness of these people makes me want to scream.

I had a cousin tell me last last week they believe the virus was secretly some 5G conspiracy in which the US or Chinese governments were killing off people with 5G or it's a side effect of the technology. I was like

This is what Scientologists actually believe. Source: my company's CEO and VPs believe this.

On a related note, shit like this is why I don't get the rampant wealth worship in the States. Some of the dumbest people I've met have been executives and upper management, usually the ones that get the job because they knew somebody and already had family inheritance. Wealth does not equal intelligence, but many of my peers in Midwest America have a hard time accepting that.

But how could God King Emperor Trump allow such a thing?

You see, he's actually fighting the deep state behind the scenes to prevent all of this. He's not actually a grifting, two-faced, sociopathic, bigoted, nazi, pedophile fuckwit...he has just surrounded himself with people like that for the past 70+ years of his life so that he better knows how to stop them. Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer, as they say!

I'm very surprised my sister is taking this as serious as she should. I'm already seeing Facebook post about how this came from a Chinese Lad to topple America. It's also a way to usher in socialism.

I mean, between moon landing deniers, flat earthers, creationists, climate change deniers, anti-vaccers, holocaust deniers etc we're already used to dealing with idiots.

So we'll manage these guys as well (they will largely overlap with many of the aforementioned dumb dumbs anyway). There's just no educating some people.

Yep. People really love to listen to the money because "They must be smart if they're rich". My CEO/Owner in particular had their parents pay for the business - this was before they were church members, and lucked into the folks that hold it together, but then convinced them all to convert.

No, Covid-19 deniers are out there getting others killed. I'd say it's pretty understandable to be angry.

If you have anyone in your life denying what's going on and putting others at risk you SHOULD be possed at them.

I guess it just always strikes me as odd that people pay obvious attention-seekers any mind. Literally giving them the argument they're looking for.

Like...there are also people that think the Earth is flat, but well-reasoned people still find ways to waste their time arguing against them. To what benefit? As though someone's mind will be swayed in a direction different than the one they came into the argument with.

No amount of proof will make someone believe something they don't want to believe - and that's their prerogative. I just think actively looking for someone to disagree with (EVEN when it's abundantly clear they're wrong and being willfully obtuse) is meaningless, but that's just me.

My aunt on my mom's side and her husband are deniers but they also hoarded that malaria drug too and post about it being a miracle cure. I yell at then about it but it's like a cult, it is getting to the point I see then as a major health threat to their community.

Always amusing to observe how the conspiracy factions never spar with each other.

Those who think this was a manufactured Chinese Bioweapon should actively be arguing with those who think this virus is just a deep state hoax designed to make an ordinary disease shut down the economy to undermine Donald Trump.

Either it's benign or its an act of war. Cmon conspiracy people! Duke it out amongst each other and leave normal people alone.

The conspiracy theory crowd proved to me they were full of shit when the whole Russia conspiracy made headlines and they completely ignored it. Despicable USSR brainwashing sheeple through social media to sow enough chaos to elect a Manchurian candidate? That should've been a goddamn honeypot. And yet instead they ignored it so that they could keep memeing about Seth fucking Rich.

Bunch of fucking contrarian anti-intellectual bigoted idiot fucks, all of 'em. Just whinging about fucking bullshit to each other. And now we're gonna see people drop fucking dead because of it.

I'm honestly not worried about the corona deniers. I'm more worried about people starting a sizeable movement that is anti-corona vaccine when one become available.

When I went to the grocery store last week, I saw a car in the parking lot that was plastered with stickers that said "Just say no to vaccines" and some website that was like vaccinetruth or some bullshit. I wanted to break their windows.

I had someone explain to me that this was created by HRC and Tom Hanks for population control, but sadly they lost s handle on it and now here we are.

Killary Clinton really putting in the work these days. Apparently Tom Hanks too.

Man, imagine if we could have gotten Hillary as a president. Between organizing these child-murder vampire cults, pedophilia cover-ups, and the global production of bioweapons she has amazing leadership credentials.

My mother works as a nurse at a hospital up in Oregon, so I sent her some messages recently to see how she's dealing with the current situation. Her response was along the lines of "We had two patients supposedly die from it when it first started up here, but right now my hospital is basically empty and they're cutting our hours. We have a few people awaiting the results of their COVID-19 tests, but that number also happens to be just around the same amount of people we have yearly for the flu..." She continued with some implications that it's a conspiracy.

She's always been into conspiracies in a relatively harmless way (casually stating that she doesn't believing we went to the moon, etc.), but it was really disappointing to hear her talk like that regarding a situation which she should be more understand of. We don't speak much these days, though..

I have to imagine that denial is the way some peoples' minds deal with the trauma of the situation. I mean, sometimes in a quiet moment, I think about what's going on and I just want to cry. I truly don't think we have yet grasped the emotional fallout that will come from this time period.

I'm not trying to give people an excuse. There will always be grifters looking to profit off conspiracy theories. But I wouldn't be surprised if in many cases, the denial is just a psychological response to such abrupt emotional trauma.

My company is run by a certain religious cult heavily based between Clearwater, FL and Los Angeles, CA, and let me tell you: Them folks don't think the virus is real.

Tell them in order to prove it they should go and get 1000 people to cough in their faces and then self-isolate for a month. Even if they feel unwell, it's probably just mild flu symptoms so no need to call an ambulance.

I've been frustrated with several people close to me that in classical Swedish tradition has had this exact trajectory in their feelings/communication about corona:
"It's fiiiine - it's fiiine - it's fiiine - it's fiiine - it's fiiine - it's fiiine - it's fiiine - this is terrible so I don't want to think about it."

The interesting thing is there is a whole slew of different pandemic deniers:
- simply stupid: this flu, car traffic kill more, ugh
- conspiracy: bioweapon from China, Israel (right), CIA (left) to root out enemies or own government to take away liberties
- medical professionals: corona viruses are not new (no shit), people don't die because of covid19 but with covid19, would've died either way (tell that to all the people dying in ES, IT, young people with no preconditions etc.), just a way to sell tests and equipment
neocons: cure is worse than the sickness, people will be dying/revolting because of economic difficulties, can't shut down economy for this
youngins: it's not bad, fight for your right to party, yolo
Etc.

Candace Owens, Diamond & Silk, and some of my fringe religious friends/family have already jumped on this grenade.

They haven't coalesced around any specific bogeyman other than "the media" so far, but the goalposts will continue to shift as the infection rate spreads to red states and/or people they know. You have to understand that for a lot of Americans (including otherwise harmless Instagram 'social influencers' selling wellness packages and yoga retreats) the idea of an illness that

A) you can't self medicate away by cleansing your body of negativity with a special herbal juice and meditation
B) you can't pray away with any kind of consistent successes
C) you can't irl shitpost it by ignoring social distancing with zero consequences
D) requires a vaccine to not make you a silver bullet against your grandparents
E) everyone in public health and the "msm" was right about before the president
F) requires a massive government social action to prevent society from collapsing on itself

Is flat out dangerous to the worldview of about 1/3 of the country. A generation accustomed to free market snake oil, vaccines = autism, disease comes from the gays, "our health insurance system is the best in the world", etc isn't emotionally mature enough to address this crisis on its face. Rush Limbaugh, who is currently undergoing life saving cancer treatment, was still shitting on public health experts because it's simply on brand until 24 hours ago when the president's change in "tone" made it okay to change his mind.

I mean he's obviously not that good of a biochemist if he infected himself.

Unless this is some kind of Albert Whesker situation.

I'm just imagining him and Hillary in hazmat suits in a clean room working with some petri dishes with samples of the virus on them only for Hanks to accidentally shatter one and pierce his suit and skin! Dun dun dunnnn...

In his 60's and way overweight.
Says all this shit about how its fake to institute marshal law and that we should ignore advised caution and live normally.
I told him to go right ahead and live normally but if he gets sick he cant come in my apartment and to make sure his sister and brother knows what to do with his body if he gets careless enough and die.
He stfu and have been locked away in his room for the past 2 weeks now handling everything with gloves on not interacting with anyone 😂😂.

Yup. A strong argument's to be made that conservatives share the brunt of the blame since they have easier access to media then some of those groups and pushed it early, but it's from every corner.

I randomly follow a dude on social media who you figure would check the boxes for someone taking it seriously, "woke" poc, young and internet savvy, aspiring entertainer/designer with some minor buzz, nyc based" and my mans managed to have a whole, "If you aint fucking with me during this virus for projects we had planned, don't ever fuck with me again....you guys really snitching on parties...stop letting the gov tell you what to do" rant a few days ago as if the world isn't burning.

America's pushed snake oil and cognitive dissonance to facts for so long I dunno if there will ever be something that happens where there us mostly uniform agreement. If Aliens attacked shooting lazers and taking over cities and you would have your assholes blaming big government, lol.

People are already denying it. My favorite is that the gubment is going to mandate vaccines, implanting a 5G chip in the process, and then have the ability to track us forever once the 5G towers go up. Like we don't already carry traceable electronics with us at all times, willingly.

Either way, it's disgusting to deny what's going on. That denial will be responsible for tens or hundreds of thousands of deaths that might have been preventable. Not to mention the overwhelmed healthcare workers that will be traumatized from having to make difficult decisions due to supply shortages, and then having to watch the people they didn't choose, die. PTSD will be rampant among the doctors, nurses, etc. Fuck the deniers.

So that's what that crap is about. I got some random garbled nonsense in a message from my mum about people getting sick from 5G.

My cousin is one of them. Posting shit on Facebook. A lot of images about how many die everyday and this Corona virus is just a small part. He seems to be bad at math though since one image he posted showed that corona virus was 50 times deadlier than the flu. I pointed this out to him and from the likes and comments it seem most of his friends also think he is full of shit. So at least he is pretty alone.

The problem is that if everything goes according to plan, people keep washing their hands thoroughly, practicing social distancing, and working from home, and the spread of the virus is minimized, the deniers will just say that they were right all along.

Science deniers are a cancer that should be ostracized and excluded from society.

institute marshal law
Hell yeah.
