That's gonna be real bad for the environment.Spire details in high resolution:

The spire was rebuilt in 19th century. It was made of oak covered in lead.
It's bad enough that so much of the structure is being flat-out destroyed by the fire, but I can't imagine the shear amount of smoke damage that will be caused to what's left.
The fire started at 18h50 local, the roof collapsed less than an hour later.I would hope, as the fire wasn't at the bottom of the building, maybe they could save lots of stuff inside.
Everyone should know that it was restored in 1844, and that the restoration was in operation for over 25 years!
I'm not trying to downplay this but the building can be rebuilt, if there is the will for it.
That is extremely dangerous to use within a city and it would completely damage the building further
BFMTV reporting that the firefighter's water stream can't get high enough
Notre Dame most likely is already written off as total loss by fire department so they just contain it and let it burn out.
After roof came in there was no saving it :/
Imagine being the guy who accidentally set Notre Dame one fire.
Everyone is talking about the history and art and stuff, but was anyone inside? Did anyone get hurt?
I can't imagine. Knowing you destroyed almost 1000 years of history. I would be suicidal.Imagine being the guy who accidentally set Notre Dame one fire.
Same. I've only been twice, but it's getting to me big time. This is horrible.
I imagine anything on the catacombs is good to go, but everything on the main nave is gone if it's made of wood and will probably need quite large restoration work if it's metal. And as someone else said already, the grout could also be in danger, which makes the rock walls quite dangerous... (I can't quite remember so I'm just assuming there was a crypt or catacombs, anyway)I would hope, as the fire wasn't at the bottom of the building, maybe they could save lots of stuff inside.
And not only the building but the treasure inside. Jesus' Crown of Thorns... just as an example.
Tragic.
