In my mind there is no contradiction to release XIV this friday, and to show XVI next week.

Why would there be a contradiction? You get attention on yourself by promoting something people can't have right away, and if you have a product that is readily available, it encourages sales. You think Apple holds back it's iPad when they reveal a new MacBook? Square Enix may stagger releases, but from a marketing perspective they have no fear of overshaowing.

By getting everyone excited about Final Fantasy without being able to actually have the new Final Fantasy (for 6-7 months at least) you open up the door for people to join or re-activate their XIV accounts, while also getting many pre-orders.

Im assuming you don't follow this thread that much, but if you did you would be shocked how difficult it is for people to grasp your logic. A lot of posters here think it's a "one thing at a time" situation.

I only said it because other folks were saying it was impossible to see XVI when XIV was days before with an expansion..

Buy Final Fantasy XVI on PlayStation Store. Enter the dark fantasy world of Valisthea in this highly anticipated single-player action RPG.

It's broken right now, but it's interesting that just now they working on updating the page
Gotham Knights, Gollum, Tchia, Dark Pictures also getting updated.
The Voice of Cards already had page but only got updated, it's not a brand new page like the others
So apparently my scoop will be right.
Gollum is a game awards world premier.
Grid stream today.
The PS pages are starting to be proven right 👀

What if after showing the S-E and CBU3 logos what they share of FF XVI is the newest PS site update?

In any case, I'd be up for another bet.

Did Tchia get anything new since the site update popped up? Gotham Knights hasn't and isn't confirmed for anything, so it'd be two missing at least!

But it's promising 👀

Gotham Knights is supposedly a Spring 2022 game and Tchia is an indie so both make sense for a TGA appearence I guess.

I need this but for FF XVI's cast next week or I'll be a bit sad:
wp6053095.png

Speaking of which, my bro's visiting and brought his PS4, so I went back to XIV with my Bryan Fury-looking Au'Rah. I'll try to do the MSQ stuff and at least get a Chocobo before I write the game off, as I really want to get into it and there's a lot I can see myself loving in here. Ideally, I'd like to keep playing whenever PS5 aren't as rare as a shooting star.

Yeah, and the wording on some GK devs made it look like the game could be getting something else soon. Furthermore, the Fandome coverage was pretty barebones and the trailer's title seems to point out at other trailers detailing the four other factions in the game.

So even if FF XVI isn't there, at least I might get some Red Hood goodness.

Anyone else recall the Playstation mobile app having an entry for FFXVI? I don't see it there now, though the browser page is still up, and yet not searchable (for me anyway).

That could be good or bad news.

Nevermind, it's there, PS App store search function just sucks.

This week's the week: we could get a trailer on the 9th!

I'm not feeling as confident about a TGA presence as I did in the last few months, but I'm still hopeful.

Inb4 the FF XVI Twitter account stating how they had to change their schedule for new info to next year :P

I'm fully expecting a post on their Twitter on Wednesday or something to say how they've regrettably had to reschedule the next information drop to sometime in 2022, and not to expect it at TGA. Please be excited.

I hope to be wrong and come TGA we are losing our minds over a new trailer.

Nothing will be shown at TGA, it feels like Creative Business Unit has had their hands full with XIV to have anything to show regarding XVI.

I'm not overly positive on it either. Feels like there ought to have been some leak of info.

I doubt the XIV stuff is coming into play. That was always going to be a headache.

I think so as well. I feel there would be more general buzz around insiders. When Final fantasy 16 was shown at Sonys event for the first time, it wasn't a huge surprise because there was kind of just general... banter in the air about it. It wasn't even a surprise that it was exclusive, since I feel that had been mentioned a few times previously. but there is just crickets chirping right now, which means either it isn't there, or Square Enix ninjas have gotten much better at taking out leakers.

I too think it has nothing to do with FF XIV, I just think either it isn't ready to be shown, or they are saving it for another event (either Sonys or Squares).

I know what you guys mean re: leaks, but I don't really remember many coming out this year, at least not for Geoff's events, so I don't see why FF XVI getting a trailer in a few days should be leaked. Could be wrong, though.

In any case, FF XVI getting teased before its reveal was probably something that was always bound to happen. Now that we know it exists and how it looks like, there's less of a "need" for people in the know to talk, I guess.
Why all this negativity now ?! Tornak if you also don't believe that you are one of the most positive and active then there is no hope ...
I don't think I'm particularly optimistic, but I'll trust on you on that one!

For real, though, I'd actually be more surprised to not see the game this month than otherwise, and TGA seems like a great venue considering how huge an event it is. If not there, we might get another State of Play, as they tend to have one around this time and I don't really think the last thing we hear from Sony themselves is a SoP where Little Devil Inside is the biggest thing (it looks fantastic, in any case). I don't we're getting a PSX this year, and Sony might as well show some heavy hitters at TGA.

So I'm just trying to play it safe, I guess. The game's absence during summer after so many teases/rumours from verified people did a number on me :P

It will have nothing to do with 14, but I'm sure there will be a wink or two towards FF14 fans, just because the world of this game is quite similar.

I think XVI will be here because it has been long enough. That holiday blog post usually comes earlier near thanksgiving or Dec 1st, and we have not seen one from them yet. They either show the game this week, or they have a blog post on Dec 23rd or something saying "see you next year for information".

They last left it off as "info in 2021" and it remains that until they do that followup blog post.

"There will be things again this year, I'm sure, where it's like, we want to show things, but they're just not ready."

Yeah, FFXVI is definitely one of those things. I mean, his show is at 2am in the EU, so that's all good. ^^

Well wouldnt you look at that:

They havent posted a new image since the game got shown in the PlayStation September Showcase, so it might be another game in TGA.

If that list ended up being right, just on a month delay that would be the most hilarious thing.

EDIT: they've also liked a tweet asking if they are planning to announce a release date soon, possibly also pointing to a TGA appearence.

Quinton And what are your thoughts on FFXVI potentially being at the TGAs? Hmmmm?

Sadly, as of this writing, I haven't heard anything either way. But don't despair on that front - I don't always hear things either way when good things happen, too!

But yeah... it's not like the way things were this past summer when I had every reason to believe we'd be seeing the game again. Of course, by that same logic, we all know how that turned out. Maybe it's for the best that I haven't been told anything I'd feel comfortable sharing. <_<

Have insiders been saying anything to the contrary? I'm just as curious as you are on that front, even if I'm occasionally kinda-sorta one, myself. I've been very busy writing Pokemon BDSP stuff for work, haha.

If there is going to be a Final Fantasy trailer (and that is a big if), it is going to be a Final Fantasy VII Remake Pt. 2 trailer. Going by past releases I'd say FFXVI is at least 4 years off, so good luck getting a release date before 2026. FF7R2 on the other hand was in full production during FF7R1 launch, so a 2022/23 release is a possibility.

Then again, I am still a firm believer that FFXVI is going to be the next FFXIV, i.e. their newest numbered FF MMO. With Endwalker wrapping up the story and YoshiP at the helm, I am confident that he's craving for a brand new MMO-engine a new number would bring without all the technical debt stifling FF14 right now.

Umm... Final Fantasy XVI has been in development longer than Final Fantasy VII Remake's second part and has also been explicitly confirmed to be a single player game. The heck are you on about?

Everything here is so wrong, lol. FFXVI has been in some level of production for many years now, with production proceeding seemingly smoothly. And it's clearly not an MMO. We've already seen the game.

It also seems like the game is close to done (as in, a year so away at the most) going by Yoshida's comments on its development.

Although, of course, game development isn't linear, so it's hard to parse where things actually are right now.

Let's hope for the best! I still more towards the game reappearing this week than not. If Gotham Knights is there too (I think it's quite likely), that'd be a great ass event for me.

We've seen cutscenes and one battle scene of one character (not a party, not even FF15 style) fighting a morbol. That doesn't proof it couldn't be an MMO, at the most it only suggests that they aren't forthright and honest if it turns out to be one.

Look, I am not one for proselytising and I know that the idea that FF16=new FF14 is a stretch. But I also said it's my belief, as in "I've got no proof".

Where is this MMO idea coming from?

They literally said this is their new standalone single player Final Fantasy, in the main series. On Sept 16th/17th 2020 after the PS showcase. XIV is their MMO atm for Final Fantasy. Creative Division 3 is not making XIV Endwalker and post launch support while also making XVI the MMO. lol, they are making the next mainline story single player game.

Whether it has party members remains to be seen, but it should as the last ones have. However, maybe expect the exploration or control to only be with the main character.

Not that they need to say this imo, but this is what they describe the game as: "FINAL FANTASY XVI is the next all-new standalone single player action RPG".

And sure, we only have a trailer and there's no saying that MMOs should only look a certain way, but this is very clearly not one (and I really don't see S-E making another FF MMO in a long time). In any case, why would they not be honest about it? What's there to gain from hiding your game's genre only to piss people off down the line? Predicting this to be a MMO of all things is bizarre ngl.

So SE is lying in their official press release?
FINAL FANTASY XVI is a single player action-RPG being developed for the PS5. This title is not yet rated.
