Save Transfer & Upgrade FAQ
  • You MUST download FF7R (PS4 Version) at least partly (enough to start the game) to transfer your save [There will be an option on the main menu]
  • Once you have transferred your save, you can delete FF7 (PS4)
  • You will receive all prior trophies once you download your save on the PS5 version (The pop-ups might take a few minutes depending on how much you unlocked prior)
  • To obtain your upgrade, you must either find the title on PSN (Here) or insert your PS4 disc and select the upgrade (You will need the disc whenever you play)
  • Once you upgrade, you can buy Episode INTERmission (Here)
  • If you own the game physically but also grabbed it via PS+, see (Here) on how to obtain the free upgrade
  • PS+ Owners of FF7R CANNOT UPGRADE - They have to pay full price

Worth saying the DLC kind of presupposes you still have your skills from the main game so if you are rusty you are gonna have a rough start until you get your legs back. lol

Great OT in such a short a short amount of time! Excited to jump in later today after work the updates look great and 60fps seems like a good fit with the combat system. Maybe I'll actually beat Bahamut on Hard this time!

So its been a while since I booted up FFVII.. but you can't select hard mode for the yuffie dlc at the start?

edit: i already downloaded my ps4 save.

Playing through the first chapter, the difference in clarity between the CG opening and real time cutscenes in 4K is massive.

The beginning of the game is so much easier than I remembered it being. That's probably because I actually know what I'm doing now, and I gotta say going through the beginning of the game again with knowledge of how to actually play has been a blast so far.

Okay I'm a bit unsure on what to do now to upgrade, I own FF7R on disk but I installed the PS+ version out of convenience, how to I get my PS5 version, simply deleting the PS+ version and popping in my disc? I did the save-transfer already.

Played the base game for an hour last night and really wanted to continue, but I chose to be responsible and go to bed...

The 60fps mode feels so good. The drop in resolution isn't that drastic and so it still looks great and just makes it so much nicer to play, especially the battles.

It's not really a spoiler (I don't think) but I did notice a slight change they've made:
Did anyone else notice how they've changed the music slightly for the opening? They've added extra flourishes here and there and made drums louder etc, but they've also changed the lyrics from One Winged Angel to something else. I thought it was a bit interesting. I wonder if it's just something they wanted to change, or if it actually means something.

I'll probably play the Yuffie DLC tonight. I was going to wait a bit but I'm worried about spoilers.

FF7R EPISODE INTERmission (Yuffie DLC exclusive to PS5) is the carrot to lure people over to the new platform in time for the next full game. Glad that next-gen (current-gen) is seemingly the baseline for the open world experience to come a few years from now.

I really wish I'd read that save transfer guide before deleting the PS4 version to make space for the PS5 one last night. The saving grace being that you don't have to download the entire PS4 game. It's not smart delivery but I'll take that over how I was feeling about the situation five minutes ago.

Have you tried just putting in the disc and seeing if that gets the "Upgrade" box to appear?
If not, then deleting the PS+ version and putting in the disc should work (As that's how RE Village was)

Yeah I did try that, it prompted me to delete the PS+ version and now it wants me to feed it the Data Disc. I currently let it install, hopefully then I can download the PS5 version. If I currently press Options and Select Version it only offers me to chose between the PS4 game and the PS4 Demo.

Getting my ass handed to me on hard difficulty lol. Got decent materia setups but I'm only level 37

DF will have a technical analysis of this game either tomorrow or Saturday by the way.

You should be able to grab it without having to install all of it.
With the disc inserted, see if the Upgrade is in the PSN store for you.

Definitely sounds like grabbing the physical and the PS+ version makes it a bit weird, but I'm curious to see what happens as I can add it to the Faq if anyone else runs into that issue.

I don't have a ton of time to play tonight, but I definitely noticed the music change in the intro cutscene. Weird considering the chanting was originally the first line of OWA. I also noticed that the intro seemed to be running in real time? Or was it just rendered at a higher resolution? Either way, it looks better somehow.

It's a « bit » soft as it was on PS4 pro (still quite sharp. But not Spider-Man sharp which again shows how amazing insomniac are. Same resolution -1440p- but sharper ). It's still insane looking and fuck me thar 60fps is legit here. Wowwww. Feels crazy good

I forgot. How to do a ng+ ? If I do new game I can only try normal

Hmm well if I simply insert the Play Disc it tells me to insert the Data Disc but I'll see, I'll report back once I get it sorted so you can add it to the FAQ :)

I'm curious if we will see more patches with this version.
It's so strange that the PS4 version (a major game) only ever received two minor patches. Almost as if they didn't dare touch the main UE4 payload, maybe they bundled the game resources in an obtuse-fashion so that they couldn't surgically replace parts with patches or whatnot.

I haven't played in a year so will be pretty rusty, but I think I'd rather play on hard than start from scratch.

    Jawmuncher I finally got it, you were right! So for everyone else who has the disc version but also the PS+ version installed:

    Delete the PS+ version, pop-in the Play Disc and ignore any "Insert Data Disc" prompts, go to PS Store and simply search for Intergrade or click the ad-banner and it will show you the PS5 upgrade. The Upgrade option did not appear on the tab of the game for me.

    If you did the shinra combat simulator on chapter 17 when playing on normal difficulty you should have a EXP materia. You just need to equip it in one character and it will allow your whole party to level up really fast, since you also gain more EXP on hard.

    First small bits of details.

    --Resolution in Quality mode: 2160p
    --Resolution in Performance mode: 1620p (almost called it!)
    --Improvements in GI
    --Fog has been added
    --Most textures have been touched up
    --Shadows have been improved
    --Loading times have gone from 40 seconds to 2 seconds. You can also boot from the OS into your save file in around 6 seconds.
    --Pop in has been reduced.

    There doesn't seem to be any dynamic res scaling, but we'll see what DF has to say eventually. For now, it looks great regardless of the mode that you choose to play.

    Did anyone had intergrade included while buying only the DLC? I made the free upgrade, began the download, then purchased the dlc only, but it turns out in the puarchase included intergrade. Which means I spent 100€ in the base game (80€, not the deluxe) and the DLC (20€).

    Thank you. Probably worth doing it then so the initial parts of this hard playthrough aren't unbearable.
