This has already happened and been talked through in an earlier match, but this pk was even clearer / play more dangerous. No doubt

Actually the Norway - France one was a lot tamer and actually quite different than this one, and (IMHO was not a penalty) but they still gave that one a penalty.
The German player should have moved out of the way for the clearance. The German player took a risk at lunging at the Nigerian player and as a result got impacted from a natural clearance. It is easy to get a penalty of this because when a footballer clears the ball, the opposition can easily take a dive and claim the follow through hurt them. Similar to how mane shot the ball at Sissoko arm. Footballer will begin to exploit var.
Don't agree with this penalty. If she didn't touch the ball and the opposition was the last in position than I would agree.
Not with VAR they cant. If the spikes come up towards someone's knee they're getting carded. Especially in the box.
If you can't clear the ball without ending up with your studs on someone's knee then you just don't clear the ball. Pretty easy to understand, you'd think.

Here is the thing about these type of (follow through) penalties, you always have to consider who had the possession, if not possession, the advantage, 'the right of way' to the ball before the foul being committed. So basically, if the defender is closer to the ball, and gets a good piece on it and boots it away while the follow through of her/his kick ends up hitting the oncoming attacker in the shins: It's not a penalty, (See Norway vs France game from last week) even though they decided as such...
Where as in this case, the German attacker was closer to the ball, she practically had possession, the Nigerian defender came out of nowhere and gave it a boot, got a piece of it sure, but mostly followed through to the attacker's shins. that's dangerous, aggressive play, thus a penalty.

if the spike comes up towards someone knee where it is intentional attempt at taking the ball from the opposition and no contact with the ball was made, then it should be carded. It is clear the Nigerian player was attempting a clearance and not trying a tackle on the German player.

All your arguments here were made by me last week with the France vs. Norway penalty, and they would make sense in that scenario, but not here, I wish you could find that penalty and study it... You have the right idea to assume this wasn't a penalty, but it was, you're ignoring ball advantage and timing.
It literally doesn't matter what you intended when your foot ends on someone's knee. Referees aren't gonna wait until someone's finally broken a leg to give a foul.
Yes every penalty has the player not making a contact with the ball first. /sarcasm. When a footballer in particular a woman footballer whose needs more power to clear the ball, they need to put more behind their kick to get the ball out. Which isn't put into context with how she cleared the ball. There is a big difference between a tackle and a clearance. This was an attempted clearance that made contact with the ball first before her foot followed through in a natural way. Are we going to tell footballer to no longer launch the ball out of their box because their foot might make contact with the opposition? Let's all play guardiola style football or total football and instead pass from the back because clearances are no longer allowed in the box.
You'd think "You can't kick opponents" is an outrageous rule judging by some of you lol. Getting the ball first or whatever the player intended is irrelevant and is only used as a talking point by bad pundits.
Honestly Nigeria has been average as fuck in this tournament. They got hard done by France but they haven't been that good in this tournament so it to sad if they go out.

Germany is probably the biggest favorite to make it to the finals. US has to get through France in their side so that's why the US isn't favored as much as Germany to make the finals
