I have to imagine that a 'Monster Hunter Switch' isn't going to be multiplatform. It's gonna be the new portable MH game that Japan is gonna go absolutely bananas for. MHS and MHW to continue as two different shards of MH.

I trust Dusk Golem and even if he didn't mention MH for Switch we already had several other hints about such a game in the past (Zell, Nate and Matrixman all mentioned the game). I just hope it will be announced soon so we can finally close the back and forth and see how sales in Japan turn into madness.

The most interesting is that it's RE Engine and it sounds like a separate custom RE Engine designed specifically for the Switch's architecture. I'm hoping that means the RE Engine games can be ported too if of course, it's not too expensive to convert them to this custom RE Engine.

I don't think anyone said it's multiplatform either.

The optics of having them separate could be easier for them, especially if the hypothetical "Monster Hunter Switch" is heavily based on the assets of the previous mainline game like past Ichinose games have been.

RE Engine Monster Hunter?

That's exciting af. Not because of how it will look, but it will feel different enough from World so it wont be like playing the exact same thing.

What engine was MH World running on?

The engine it runs on doesn't really define that. Monster Hunter Tri & Portable 3rd were on whatever Monster Hunter engine they used originally, whereas Tri Ultimate was on MT Framework.

MT Framework like the 3DS games.

This is kinda my thinking. I think there'll obviously be some initial confusion/backlash from non-Nintendo fans who have gotten into World on PlayStation/Xbox/PC but there's a huge traditional MH audience (particularly in Japan) that I think will lose their minds at the announcement of a proper new portable MH.

It's been quite a few years of waiting, but Monster Hunter 5 will finally be announced.

I'm not really going to waste energy being concerned about a game that hasn't even been announced yet being in a "worrying position". Game development is hard, I imagine it's especially hard with the added pressures of remaking one of the greatest games ever made.

If the switch (pun intended) to RE engine is true, then sadly it probably won't have many monsters...
What would make you think that? I don't think Ichinose has ever done a Monster Hunter that's ever been lacking in monster count. It's certainly possible that MH Switch wouldn't have the head count of Iceborne necessarily, but I can guarantee that there would be more unique monsters compared to that game.

Monster Hunter on Switch... sheesh. How am I supposed to keep up? I still need to play Iceborne on PC and I also have Generations Ultimate on the Switch already to play. I'm not ready for another brand new Monster Hunter game :/

Well, if that's the first re engine mh, they'll have to start from scratch, next games will just reuse assets and add more.
As the first game, it will probably be more limited and far less diverse than generations.
But I'm no tech specialist, maybe they'll be able to import some mt framework assets into re engine, I don't know...

At the very least, Ichinose's game has been in development for over 3 years.

It's the 9th of September same day as the COD multiplayer gameplay, that's my guess anyway

I can only imagine that the work that they've been doing with adapting RE Engine to Switch was also to work on tools to import assets as well, since sharing is such a vital part of the Monster Hunter wheelhouse. But yeah, I'm not particularly worried about how the roster turns out since they've always been a leader in that regard. Frankly, being more limited and less diverse than Generations would still mean great things, since comparing any game to Generations in those regards makes all of them come up lacking!

If that engine can run on switch, I hope they can get RE7 on switch especially if the is a stronger model coming out next year

I feel like there are so many qol things in World that I don't know if I could go back to a more "classic" Monster Hunter game. World just got it's hooks in me so much that I would be perfect fine if they only did sequels in that style from here on out.

That said, if this switch game exists, I'll probably still buy it. With World winding down next month, it might be nice to have a side monster hunter to mess around with. I just hope they find ways around the switch limitations... Mainly graphics and online functionality. Perhaps this will be the star game to help sell the rumored new Switch?

I hated MHW, so I'm curious to see what they are planning for the Switch.

More 4U and less World is what I want.

What makes you think it's a more classic monster hunter? Was that said anywhere?

What's the point of developing MH switch on the Re engine If they know the other games can't be ported? It would make more sense to continue using MT Framework, an engine that the team is familiar with, that is used with the previous games and It's already supported by the switch. Seems like a waste of resources.

Unless Capcom plans to develop more switch exclusives, but that Seems doubtful given their known strategy.
I do wonder if those more powerful Switch rumours releasing next year come to fruition if Nintendo will do a 'new n3DS' and have games exclusive to that platform? That would leave the door open for ports of other RE Engine games in the future for that iteration, perhaps.

Was Monster Hunter Stories even successful enough to warrant a sequel, in RE engine at that?
Not particularly. The game itself sold just OK in Japan, but since it was part of a multimedia effort to expand the appeal of the IP, selling just OK isn't enough, especially with the anime being quickly forgotten. Even the pseudo-sequel they made for mobile in Monster Hunter Riders seems have already been forgotten by Capcom themselves and I don't think anyone would be surprised if it gets shut down relatively soon.

That said, Stories wasn't made internally to begin with (Marvelous First Studio did pretty much all the heavy lifting there), so if Capcom were to do another one, it wouldn't involve Ichinose's team at all.
