Actually the original Japanese name of Cobblestone has a very interesting interpretation related to "Roto" (Japanese version of "Erdrick").
In the English version they named it as "cobblestone", I don't understand. Is there any deep meaning of this cobble word (is it possibly related to "Erdrick"?). I saw your name and your avatar pages ago and was very surprised too, is it a mere coincidence? :P
Im not even a dq fan, someone just linked me to a video of special attacks like a year ago. I saw about a minute of it,then saw theres about 30 minutes of those closed the tab and decided i wanted it.
im a huge sucker for jrpgs with bucketloads of unnecessary flashy skills. Over the top skills is why i got into jrpgs. The last gen some moved to realism and low skill counts while others moved into neptunia nonsense territory.
Its why bravely second is the only jrpg i loved last gen.
Cobblestone is a type of building material. I haven't played DQ1-3, so I don't even know the actual legend of Loto/Erdrick, but there shouldn't be anything that special about "Cobblestone" as a name.
"Cobble" has sorta humble, homey, rustic, or modest connotations, ie. cobbles, cobbler. There's no connection to Erdrick, but it's a suitable name for a starting town and gives it a sense of "humble beginnings."
That was the first thing I did too, from 10 o 3. Now it is playing faintly in the background and it makes the game much better. It's a sad state of affairs when a game is much better when you tone down or completely turn off its music. :(
Would recommend Trails of Cold Steel if you're really into flashy, Limit Break style moves.
According to DF it was 1800c, unless that's changed from the Japanese release
It's sixth on mine:Is Dragon Quest XI currently the top-selling game on Steam? That's what the list is telling me. I don't think this is personalized in any way, but could someone else check? If it's really #1 on the top-sellers list, that's pretty extraordinary. It just seems odd, since it's #18 on the Amazon top video games list. Although, if you limit it to only actual games and exclude things like controllers and PSN gift cards, it's #5.
Hm, interesting! Here's what mine looks like, logged out of Steam and with my cookies cleared.
Can't upgrade the Trodian gear. :( Wish these games entertained the glamour/vanity side of things more.
I'm in Aus. Probably regional I guess?Hm, interesting! Here's what mine looks like, logged out of Steam and with my cookies cleared.
Maybe it's regional. Do you mind telling me what region you're in?
Ah, right! I'm in the US. If I set my VPN elsewhere the list changes. #1 top selling Steam game in the US is pretty impressive! I hope this game can be the breakthrough the series deserves outside of Japan.
Argh I don't know which version to get!
I have a PS4 PRO and a 4k TV.
I have a PC with a 1080ti and a 4k Montior.
PC is upstairs on my desk and my PS4 pro is down in my sitting room.
I could do steam in home streaming down to my Samsung TV for Comfy Couch but I'm limited to 1080p then and possible input lag.
Ugh....
Does that matter much for a turn based game?
Would be really cool to see the series succeed on PC. Anything that gets these games into the hands of more players.Ah, right! I'm in the US. There's a chance we get a DQ3 remake as the next big title, since they built a portion of it in Unreal 4 to settle on how this game would look.
Sure, I'm not saying it doesn't matter at all. I just don't know know that it matters that much for a turn-based game. So, convenience might be more compelling. For me the combination of convenience and having a physical copy for my shelf was enough to outweigh 60fps and the possibility of an eventual orchestral mod and make me go for PS4, but that's different for everyone.
IRL your eves see books at thousands of FPS.
It's a turn based RPG, but it also has a huge 3D world to explore and camera controls. 60fps (or more) will be a big difference in smoothness overall compared to the PS4 versions.Sure, I'm not saying it doesn't matter at all. All 11 DQ game have featured a silent protagonist who is always male right?
I wonder if they'll ever venture into the realm of having a non-silent protagonist or *gasp* even worse, a FEMALE PROTAGONIST!
All kidding aside I'm just sitting here waiting impatiently for (hopefully) my copy arriving sometime today.

Can anyone explain? Note that Im a DQ newb."Enter name:
Erdrick
"Sorry that name is not allowed. Please enter another."
I want my money back.

Didn't know about 3 and 4!
Erdrick is the English name of the legendary hero the Dragon Quest 1 protagonist is descended from / the protagonist of DQIII. It's a famous enough detail to be referenced in Zelda 2 and the original Final Fantasy:
Whats the deal with some games getting the DQ logo with the sword as the "T" and some don't get the sword? They're really inconsistent even with VIII on PS2 vs VIII on 3DS!Guys, I think I have a problem...
All the DS games are NIB. :D
I fucking love this series. It's amazing how much support the series got on the original DS.
Regarding the stories. They aren't meant to be War and Peace and that's exactly what I love about them. They're so charming and absolutely lovely. These games are a comfortable pillow. A full body pillow I just want to cuddle.
I remember that FF1 reference, but Zelda 2? News to me!Erdrick is the English name of the Dragon Quest 1 protagonist. It's a famous enough detail to be referenced in Zelda 2 and the original Final Fantasy:
