I really like my boss, as does everybody else in the company and I want to earn his respect as an engineer and as teacher.
My job is to build and fix machine learning software. It's a cool, reasonably sexy field. Google just invested in our company which is always nice.
I get 20 days off a year + 10 federal holidays and I can travel to other offices in NYC, Paris, London, Sydney, Singapore a couple times a year if I want to.
Most days, I don't have to go to the office if I don't want to. Most of my work can be done remotely.
I get to work on internal programming projects I pick if I want to.
We have a very active slack server with a lot of smart people contributing cool articles about the world / tech.
There are some negatives as well, to be sure, but in the grand scheme of things, they're not worth mentioning.
My advice is to brave your fears and never settle for a job that doesn't make you grow and feel happy.
