yeah, that would be good to know...
I'm pretty sure he recommended playing Nioh in performance modeThis is also true because that's John's/DF's preference usually. I remember I disagreed heavily when Nioh came out as well because it just felt soooo much better to play in performance mode.
That's because 1800cb is a disappointing upgrade, it's on the north of 3 million pixels when 1080p is 2 million pixels. And on top of that there's upscaling from the same proportion xbone has going from 900p to 1080p.
Proportionally speaking the pro performance on this game on a 4k TV is much worse than xbone on a 1080p one.
I see. Yeah, had it not been CB on pro the difference would be indeed very small.

I don't think they do. I think it's literally the base console + textures and resolution.I am disappointed: Not even 2160p checkerboard while the previous game (who kinda looked even better than this one according to some comparisons) managed to get that resolution on PS4 Pro. Unless this Resolution mode on PS4 pro (and XB O X) use the highest details hence no third enhanced mode for both.
Edit; I just read the DF comparison. Both newer consoles use 4K textures. which is great. So this is good on PS4 Pro, regardless.

Beyond resolution, are there any other differences to consider? Well, the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro versions receive higher quality '4K' textures.
We've been in contact with them and that was their response.
Yah I meant they maxed textures and res.Read the comaprison tool wich makes comparisons between all consoles. In the first 2 comaprions, DF mentions that the new consoles use 4K textures and you can clearly see the higher resolution textures on new consoles. Also the XB O X trailer mentions 4K textures too.
Edit: from the article itself:
Edit 2 : On you meant maxed out version like before? I saw just saw you mentioned textures. NVM.
Yeah. I don't think they maxed out the game like the previous one, since there is no third mode for it and espeically that this game only uses 4X anisotropic filtering and PC can go to even ray-traced shadows.
Yah I meant they maxed textures and res.
I'd take a dynamic mode with higher visuals like ROTTR
This game is doing a lot more rendering wise than the previous.I am disappointed: Not even 2160p checkerboard while the previous game (who kinda looked even better than this one according to some comparisons) managed to get that resolution on PS4 Pro. You even watch the video on a 4K TV? Looks great on Pro (obviously it's better on X) and John said it's a great Pro upgrade. Factor in the more stable framerate and I'm not sure what you're getting at here aside from showing your fanboy colors.Witcher 3, Rise of Tomb Raider, Monster Hunter World (that one is really revealing because the resolution on X was even lower but native and still is noticeable sharper), a few others I may not now, but I specifically wanted to compare games that the resolution was close but with CB on pro to see how it compares. I do sit at a fair distance from the TV, it's almost 3 meters for a 55".
But let's put it in another way, there's a bigger difference between X and Pro in this game than between xbone and Pro.
Sure the higher the density the less noticeable a difference is. But on paper that's not an impressive showing at all.
HeyHey Alex, quick question.. does the PC version support Dolby Atmos.. or is it just the console versions? Thanks
This game is doing a lot more rendering wise than the previous.
Hey
There is no specific option for it in the menu from what I see, unlike Tobii eye tracking for example. Is it normal to have a separate control for it in PC games you have tried with it? You can choose the dynamic range though between low, medium and High.
They say it was never dynamic. However, I myself was thinking it might be as well initially - it wasn't so clear. You have to understand how difficult to pixel count some games can be. Ultimately, it doesn't matter in this case.Oh, so it was dynamic before the day one patch, and they changed it to a fixed resolution of 3584x2016 on the X when you checked it? Or did NXGamer just make a simple mistake and it wasn't ever dynamic on the X?
Also John, do you know if the PC version supports Dolby Atmos?
I would love to check it out directly and do a more indepth a - b comparison in time, but new GPUs and the game supporting it needs to happen first!Looks great, shame you couldn't test the PC version with ray tracing too, maybe later.
Ya, hopefully the RTX patch comes this Sept, it will be really interesting comparing the shadows, personally i wasn't hyped by what Nvidia showed, but an in depth comparison from DF would be cool & maybe sell me on it more.I would love to check it out directly and do a more indepth a - b comparison in time, but new GPUs and the game supporting it needs to happen first!
And if there were any frame rate, judder or input lag issues I didn't feel them at all. Yes you can measure this stuff for a YT video, but you don't always notice it.
That info has come from myself NOT DF just to be clear.Maybe you don't. And that's cool. Good for you. I think I speak for most of the complainers here when I say I would love to not notice any of that. It gives me no pleasure to be completely unable to enjoy something I'd otherwise be interested in due to terrible latency or heavy judder.
I feel like you think we're just mindlessly chasing numbers here, we're really not. 250ish ms input lag is not only noticeable, it's well above the threshold for "completely unplayable" for me.
I'm just happy DF popularized perf analysis videos so that more often than not people like me have this info ahead of time nowadays. It used to be a complete crapshoot.
Im gonna guess it's the engine & all the effects added on to it grants it additional latency, the 360 version of ROTTR with many effects striped out didn't have any latency issues. People bring up the PC version as if it's only a Console issue & not an engine one, but that's a bit irrelevant because PC tends to have lower latency across the board for some reason. We know about that latency issue since 2015(RotTR)? The question is: Why is it still in this game? I don't get it.
4K at whatever settings will be fine.
Unless the PC version also suffers from Input lag i think you are more than fine with frames at or around 60.
Just look at the PC version of this game:
No, that's not how it works. 1800cb on 4K TV is much better than 900p on 1080p TV. The more pixels there are, the less noticeable it gets. 1080p pixels are already too few so 900p would look so soft, but on a 4K TV, 1800p/cb isn't that bad.
I don't expect too much in the shadow department. The show case with RTX on and off were so minor in those few compared shots that it seems to me it's more a reflection thing. The Metro Exodus comparison also wasn't convincing with the 'think what creatures could hide in those shadows' remark, as it wouldn't be possible with HABO+ or VXAO that looked wonderful in Rise. But thinking of the overall performance I'm not too excited about this tech. Maybe in two or three years.Ya, hopefully the RTX patch comes this Sept, it will be really interesting comparing the shadows, personally i wasn't hyped by what Nvidia showed, but an in depth comparison from DF would be cool & maybe sell me on it more.
While image quality of various cb implementations are not bad, they are noticeably worse compared to native 4k and native lower resolutions.
Most of the AAA use their own CBR tech and honestly I never found any of them so terrible how you claim. Sure 4k native is another league but there are cases,The Witcher 3 for example, where IQ is even sharper on ps4 pro with CBR vs the dynamic 4k on the X. That's really impressive considered it's "half of res" of real time pixels on the Pro. And honestly in TR IQ 1800p CBR is far more preferable than lower native 1440p...While image quality of various cb implementations are not bad, they are noticeably worse compared to native 4k and native lower resolutions.
I often wondered if Consoles introduce something like pre rendered frames option that Nvidia has to reduce CPU load but increases latency. It could be something like that too.Pc could have a different model of mulithreading. As an example, to increase framerate in TLOU remastered they purposefully induced a frame of latency so they could parallelise things more as single threaded performance was not enough on jaguar.
I hope Shadow doesn't remove VXAO or HBAO+ because of RTX, but that kinda seems like the case. What a shame about VXAO because only 2 games use it.I don't expect too much in the shadow department. ROTR's checkeboard technique on Pro was really good. Compared to native 4k on PC was worse, but not noticeably. IQ was slightly blurred compared to PC version.

They still not fixed this issue in final code? Holy shit.I think the game needs more underwater effects, It's like Lara is flying in the air!!
Pretty sure the day 1 patch has them, maybe someone can confirm.
