Sure, it's not like Switch is going to fall off a cliff but in comparison to the PS4 I think we'll see a much more apparent peak and then decline. PS4 has been almost flat for four years straight.
I feel like Nintendo was also lucky that people started liking cartoony games again, people gave them lots of shit for being kiddie in the ps2 gen but nowadays the biggest games (Fortnite, LoL, Minecraft) are all cartoony
Wasn't the biggest game back then GTA San Andreas.Biggest games back then were also "cartoony": Pokémon, Mario, Kingdom Hearts.
Had a quick scan of the release.
Strong performance for Switch this month. Best single month in hardware sell through for any console since December 2010. Smash Bros. had an extremely strong month with revenue notably over $200m. What's also notable is how well Nintendo first party software has performed this year, even titles that are over a year old. Installed base is now over 10.5m in the US.
------------------------
Xbox One had a good year all things considered. Hardware was up YoY thanks to the release of the Xbox One X. Software remains healthy and I really need to stress how large the digital shares are on Xbox compared to other platforms. Global installed base now around 41m.

PS4 had a strong year for both hardware and software. First party was strong this year and overall software was extremely healthy for the full year (Thanks Red Dead). Annual hardware sales were down compared to 2017, but higher than 2016. Will be interesting to see how the console performs in 2019.

Full game sales were up this year but it needs to be noted how digital game add ons, services and subscriptions continue to grow and account for a larger part of the pie each year.
Overall 2018 was a positive year for the console games industry in the US.
Knew the Xbox had to be over 40 by now. People have been saying 30-35 for what feels like the entire generation.

3DS hardware sold more in 2016 than 2015 though. It actually runs counter to the point you're trying to make.
Best place to post it is the PAL Charts thread. Someone did beat you to the punch though. Not sure if posted in ERA and don't know where to post it:
PS4 has been the best selling console in Spain (top 4 European market, top 7 worldwide market in gaming revenue) during 2018:
https://vandal.elespanol.com/notici...ido-la-consola-mas-vendida-de-2018-en-espana/
Units sold ruing 2018 in Spain:
PlayStation 4 - almost 650.000
Nintendo Switch - almost 390.000
Nintendo 3DS - almost 75.000
Xbox One - almost 73.000
Those are insane numbers and no one ever though it was at 35m in 2015.
Not sure if it is revenue based or unit based but apparently PS4 console hardware was up YoY (probably the former):PS4 had a strong year for both hardware and software. That's like asking Pixar to do live action because who the fuck wants CGI amirite (/s)I feel like Nintendo was also lucky that people started liking cartoony games again, people gave them lots of shit for being kiddie in the ps2 gen but nowadays the biggest games (Fortnite, LoL, Minecraft) are all cartoony

Yeah King Zell hinted at this. He said BotW fans will be very happy with 2020 and that a 3D Zelda is coming then (2D Zelda this year). I put two and two together and assumed the 3D Zelda is a BotW sequel so that's my guesswork. It could be a prequel or an unrelated Zelda game with the same gameplay structure but I think Nintendo probably wants to make a sequel this time, possibly like Majora's Mask.
Are you able to stress to the point of proving comparative percentages between platforms?Had a quick scan of the release.

Probably the only regions where it's actually doing OK.I agree with this. It does feel like years almost that I've been reading the 35m+ figure. Was this a consistent over estimate or did it really take a long ass time to get from 30m to 40m? It seems to sell decently in the U.S and the U.K.
Did you see the post I was quoting? Please try to understand context.
I imagine it would. Even if you figure on it not having any Rare games on it, it'd still be a machine that will play, at a minimum, Super Mario 64, OoT, Mario Kart 64 and a Mario Party game that isn't the first one. Those alone would generate a ton of interest if we don't have anything similar in place on the Switch at that point.I feel like this argument will probably fall apart when the N64 classic sells well.
How reliable is _SuperData on twitter? I can't fathom how they'd have access to Nintendo digital sales but they reported this
Man an iterative sequel to BotW has the potential to be so fucking good, it's almost scary.
Basically, Spiderman has way more direct competition on its platform and is the first entry of the series (even if it's a very popular, licensed one).
Smash is a series with huge sales and long tradition of fans, and didn't have to compete with other big selling game release on its platform during december. For that year only Pokemon was something comparable on its platform. Spiderman instead had to fight many other game sellers, like the biggest selling game of the year (RDR2) the typical launches (CoD, FIFA, NFL, AC, etc) and even in the 1st party side GoW won the GOTY in many places and I assume it will end selling more than Spiderman.
Also looking back at this:
if this is for Switch, GOTY
They weren't wrong about Nintendo needing to lower the 3DS price, but that sure as shit didn't have anything to the do with the VitaAlso looking back at this:

You can tell there is a clear bias towards Sony more than Nintendo or Xbox...
if this is for Switch, GOTY
if its for another ugly low res 3DS game in the year of our Lord LeBron 2019, L
you know what? I 100% absolutely will cant lieyou'll take your a link between worlds-style link's awakening 3ds remake and you'll like it.

Last year you mentioned Xbox One being around 35 million by the end of 2017. So the Xbox One sold around 6 million last year? Seems a bit low.Xbox One had a good year all things considered. Holy smokes at the Neogaf thread:
"Someone in another thread actually suggested they may be intentionally devaluing themselves in preparation for a potential buyout. Which is absolutely insane. But it hadn't occurred to me before, and in a crazy way, could explain some of their absolutely asinine regarding this event, the Switch, and the year coming up."
Are some of those people serious?
