Nope, just following the the situation as Kotaku is part of G/O Media and Deadspin happened to be the site that got the the brunt of it. No idea who any of these people are.
Jesus Christ, this is amazing (not why they quit, but them quitting in general). Wish most people had the balls that these people do.
I've been following the Deadspin story only since yesterday, which is when I had just learned who Dave Portnoy is. The Deadspin story is a story about journalism and venture capitalism run amok and transcends particular sports news personalities.
Great to see. Hopefully Magary does similar, I know a lot of people who would bail on the site in a heartbeat without him

I would like to point out that these vampires first response to mass resignations was to turn off the fucking comments. So that leaves pretty much no one but Drew, David, and some of their wrestling/soccer writers. Fuck this sucks so much.
Deadspin was a profitable site that made good cash from ads. But these VC idiots come in with their playbook, that literally does not work, and managed to crater the site in six months.

idk what their union does exactly but their editorial team doesn't seemed to be covered since the CEO fired a deputy editor.
id imagine because this sends a vastly bigger message. also, this was motivated by the firing of a longtime editor of the site.
Kudos to them taking a stance on this, it's clear from the CO's statement they don't give a shit.
They're all like this. It's not even about profitability. Deadspin was a profitable site that got all the demos that advertisers lust for. They made money and plenty of it. I had a feeling this was coming when the auto play video ads started showing up a few weeks back but god damn I didn't expect the forest to burn down so quick.
They do indeed. They've been fighting G/O for six months now since they took over. G/O's first mandate was a handbook that said they couldn't use encrypted messaging/email and a bunch of editorial control shit that flew in the face of their union. My guess is the staff just got sick and tired of fighting this shit and Barry getting sacked was the last straw.
We are fucked. We'll assess how fucked over the coming days and formulate another denial.
Deadspin hasn't been good in years anyway so if it dies it dies

Deadspin is the only sports site I follow. Hopefully the editors can start a new site or land on their feet.

Yep that's what Deadspin turned into over the last couple of years.
All of that was done when AJ Daulerio ran the site and were owned by Gawker, which they haven't been for three years now.
