Universal is back on the search for a director to helm its next Jurassic World movie as Deadline is hearing David Leitch is no longer in talks to direct the film. Insiders say the parting was amicable but that ultimately the studio and Leitch had different visions for the film.
This now becomes one of the hotter directing jobs in town as the studio is still sticking to its July 2, 2025 release date. The studio recently tapped David Koepp, who helped launch the franchise when he penned the first two Jurassic Park films, to write the script.
The new movie will be a completely fresh take on a Jurassic era with Jurassic World cast members Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return, nor the original trilogy's thespians Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill.

David Leitch Not Directing Next ‘Jurassic World’ Movie After Talks Fall Through

David Leitch is no longer in talks to direct 'Jurassic World' movie, and Universal is searching for a replacement while keeping the pic's 2025 release date.

I wish studios wouldn't announce release dates for things that don't have directors attached

Yikes.... Why do I feel like this going to somehow end up being worse than the last film?
I genuinely think that's impossible. The last Jurassic Park film had nothing but:
- nostalgia bait
- terrible pacing
- an awful script, I mean come on the first 10 minutes of Dominion was recapping the last 2 movies
- an overly big cast
- a forgettable story to the point where like most people, I only remember the one action sequence in... Venice(?)

This new movie doesn't have much that it needs to go up against in order for it to be better lol

Just make a closer adaptation of the Lost World book.

That shit was dope and scary and they only made one fucking scene from it in the film.

I'm not too upset by this news because of how flashy and action focused Leitch is. I'd rather a more moody and suspenseful take.

But he's at least good at what he does and… if action is what they're going for I can see them just circling the drain and picking up a terrible shaky cam action guy somehow.

"Thank you for your presentation David. After some consideration, we regretfully have to decline your proposal to feature dinosaur martial arts in the next Jurassic World. Thank you for coming. Security will escort you outside."

Didn't David just post something about a dream come through? Possibly referring to something else but damn that was a quick turn around.

I unironically think Zack Snyder could possibly make the second best Jurassic Park movie ever made if given the reigns. I know that might sound completely ridiculous to some people but given that Jurassic Park movies only need a ridiculously light plot to get us through each and every movie, Zack would be able to pretty much coast off his cinematography and ability to make great action sequences.

I worry this will end up being bad news once the director is chosen and is worse, but im happy right now

I know this is sacrilege to say. But how about a remake more akin to the book

Thank Raptus Jesus.

Anyway, Leitch not directing doesn't change that Universal seems to want this to be an action franchise. It's clear to me they looked at the criticisms of Dominion's action and setpieces and are attempting to rectify that by getting directors with action experience, not question the whole action-focused direction in the first place. They want Jurassic to be pretentious Fast & Furious with dinosaurs. They'll just look for another action director.

What you're describing is Fallen Kingdom.

That action sequence in Malta is by far the best thing about it. I feel like the movie peaked there and never got better.

What do you mean different visions? The whole point of this is that there's already a finished script, how much can their visions differ here.

If they actually do another Jurassic Park/World movie, they need to just put some people on a dinosaur filled island and show them trying to survive and just keep their asses there the whole movie. That's it.

Why they keep fucking up this formula is beyond me.

You don't bring in a director like that and not let them have input on where the script goes. Well maybe you do then they walk When you won't listen to their ideas.

I feel like there's one movie that is exactly that. And it sucks. Yes JP3 sucks.

Maybe the studio just didn't have the FUCKING VISION to see the brilliance in dinosaurs in bulletproof suit coats

I'd give Takashi Yamazaki a chance at it, since Godzilla Minus One was incredible, and let him have full control over the special effects as well.

What a mess.

Jurassic World Dominion was so terrible I was forced to watch the latter half of it on 1.5x speed like some podcast.

Then... make time? Why does this need to be rushed out?
Universal is probably banking on it to be a primary revenue generator that quarter, and Jurassic growing into more of a multimedia franchise probably means they have planned tie-ins already in motion.

I know he wants Star Wars, but dude would absolutely *nail* Jurassic in a way that hasn't been done since the original. Minus One had the exact right sensibilities.

Of course it's this. These major studios are never going to let all their movies have whatever time they need. Maybe they'll let James Cameron have as much time as he wants but not for anyone. And this is a movie that's appeal is the franchise, they can make a success without necessarily aligning all the best creative elements they know that.

feels wild that hollywood can make a super good franchise out of the planet of the apes but making dinos fun is just impossible
