When does the physical edition release?

It's on the threadmarks:

Physical versions, yes! On Xbox and Switch...not sure about PC (cuz who buys physical PC games?)

They'll come after the DLC drops so that everything will be patched up and on disk as the final final FINAL version of Cuphead.

We're looking into what we want to do with the physical versions (there'll probably be some goodies in the case), and as with all Cuphead things, it'll take some time. But they'll exist...eventually.

Cuphead pre-orders are tracking fantastic on Switch All I'm gonna say Switch owners, is you better give Ori this level of support when it comes to the Switch as well. Its one of the best games I've played this generation. If ya'll can do this for Cuphead ya better do it for Ori!

I wouldn't be surprised if Cuphead sells better on Switch than Xbox One, we gotta support Microsoft!

AKA: More Xbox exclusives on Switch.

Can someone tell me how the difficulty of cuphead compares to other hard games, even ones not in the same genre like dark souls

I've beaten all the souls games, I'm playing through Sekiro right now just fine, I even beat Super Meat Boy. Cuphead is way harder, I gave up at the honeybee boss. I don't regret buying the game though, the art is amazing and I had fun.

Well, did you ever played some old 2d platformers?
For me, is in the same league. Is hard, but fair. For the instance, i never beat any of the souls game
2D arcade hard like metal slug or donkey Kong country hard?

I don't mind donkey Kong country difficulty, I don't like the difficulty of metal slug that was designed to make you spend more quarters

Gonna buy it day one but I don't know when I'll play it tbh. I just put down Sekiro for Yoshi because I started dreading coming home every day from work to get my ass kicked. Not sure I'll be in the mood for Cuphead in a couple weeks.

I can definitively state that Cuphead was not designed to make you spend more quarters :P

Does it make you start back at the first stage when you run out of lives though? Or just the beginning of the current stage you are on?

This could make a big difference

You have infinite lives, but you start back at the beginning of the stage when you die. You start with 3 HP, but can have 4 or 5 HP depending on which charms you equip.

Oh ok I can handle that, I hate old school arcade games that make start back at the beginning of the game

Cuphead is definitely fair, if anything it is like DKC in terms of difficulty, if you only play the secret worlds so to speak. There's a learning curve for each level, but there's little to no garbage unfair moments.

It's super hard, old school pattern recognition shooter type gameplay, but it is fair (for the most part). I completed it on XB1, but will defo be double dipping to support StudioMDHR and Microsoft releases in general on Switch too. I will hold off for the physical release however, hopefully it'll release later this year (fingers crossed).

Thanks for getting this on switch btw, will you be able to get your next game on switch too or is this just a one time deal?

No idea. We're an independent studio, so we aren't beholden to anyone. Any future project is up in the air at this point. We're focused on finishing the DLC up (which will be coming to Switch as well) and figuring out what's next.

holy moly the game is doing so good on the eshop charts. this is amazing results for a game that's only up for pre-purchase. it's currently #3 on all games (#2 in digital), only behind ff7 and yoshi.
nintendo is also doing a lot to promote the game. other than beginning the nindies direct with it, they've done a nintendo minute episode about it and put a dev interview in the switch news app.

I wonder if switch will get both Oris...
i imagine they'll just announce ori 1 in a direct, it would still be a similar megaton like cuphead. MS would probably want ori 2 to be on their own platforms, at least for a while. in a year or so, 2 may come as well.

Incredible, i saw that eshop chart too. This will sell great. I am optimistic that it will overtake the xbox Version sales wise. Its also affordable with the 20 Euros i guess

Though it's tired at this point, there were few indie games I could point at that scream "SWITCH VERSION ?" more than Cuphead. Besides being a cartoony local co-op sidescroller that works perfectly with a system that has two controllers attached to it, Cuphead and Mugman even match the coloration of the Joycons.

Now they just need Amiibo...

Yeah, I see Ori 2 coming to Switch next year, to give Ori 1 enough time alone to sell on Switch and Ori 2 console timed exclusive on Xbox for 6 months to a year.
