I really hope you enjoy it! Like, I used to be Naughty Dog or nothin', I did not enjoy 98% of 2000s-era Crash lol (the GBA side-scrollers were pretty decent).
But Crash 4: IAT is somethin' special IMO, like, it's the first post-ND mainline platformer that made me go "Woah...these guys get it, they really fuckin' get it, this is awesome!".
It's just a beautiful amalgamation of the original trilogy, it embraces its heritage while also bringing plenty of fresh ideas to the table.

I do have to say though, if your enjoyment of the remake trilogy involved 100% completion you might wanna be wary of this one. The handling of the completion path is the single most controversial thing. I made a thread celebrating Crash 4's 2nd year anniversary and the thread became dominated by discussion of it lol
Oh wow. That has me hyped! And i'm not a 100% achiever so I'm not too worried about it. Just like good platforming, music, and levels/worlds to explore!

Would not surprise me if Crash stays multiplat.
Hmm, I disagree. I think the audience for Crash is fairly small that Microsoft could eat the loss and prop up their family friendly view and gamepass value with it.
Though the next one I think will at least be multi since the deal hasn't closed and there's seemingly already contracts for it. And I could see them releasing on Switch potentially. I hope I'm wrong though, Crash is one of my favorites and I'd love for it to be on everything.

Holding a dim candle of hope for future CTR stuff.

Really wish they'd port all of their remakes since the N. Sane trilogy to current gen. Those 30fps caps and load times ache.

This renews my fading hope for 60fps CTR on PC. Just hope if they do current-gem ports, the PC players don't get shafted in some way.

Oh man this will be so great for Steam Deck. But it's so beautiful on PS5 and I'm close to 100%. Hmmmm…

As long as Toys for Bob is making the next one I'm already there. They blew me away with this intense passion with 4.

Man, I boot up the game, I'm in love with the colors, the music, the vibes, the memory of looking forward to it and even playing it... but then when I look at the levels and gem requirements to get the last of the skins with my eye on the Crash bat since forever and my head just starts to fucking twist between my ears and behind my eyes and I get angry as fuck and remember my kids giving up on playing or watching me play and then I shut the game down without ever playing. Has been this way for so long.

Fuck, I hate the unlock requirements!

Glad people will finally be able to play Crash 4 on PC without needing to recur to Battle.Net (seriously.. that was just weird..); BUT I'm really excited to see what Wumpa League is all about, FINALLY after so much teasing and rumors.. I was pretty tired... and I know that lot of stuff changed behind the curtains (not to mention Activision literally crumbling down as a company), but the publicly available clues only added to the agony...

So, let me take a moment to recap *everything about Wumpa League throughout these last two years (yes..) and put you up to speed if you're not aware; Feel free to Threadmark if you want, Lant_War !

- At the same GDC pannel, a board of notes was shown discussing what they were aiming for the concept of Crash 4; Deliberately, a note written "Wumpa League" was the only one hidden behind another note and not fully shown. (Jul 22nd 2021)

- Toys For Bob, on Twitter, made a little guessing game with their followers, so people could point out their portfolio of games released.. with 18 question marks, but they only really put out 17 games publicly at this point. The day they revealed the results, they made a mystery out the 18th game (Aug 15th and 16th 2022)
image.png

- And of course, that leads us to present time, where they announced Crash 4 for Steam, with a Pizza Box that gave us a hint of more to come on December 8th, which is The Game Awards 2022; Crash's social media is liking all the reacting tweets on the matter (Oct 7th 2022)
image.png

Again, I proposedly avoided using other leaked material that came from a banned source, even though they are pretty much confirmed to be real; But either way.. this has been a ride, and I don't think we could get through with our N.SANITY intact if wasn't for constant insurance of Wrestleman and for that, thank you! 💕

Probably we're getting this list of hints even bigger before we get a proper announcement, because, of course... But it's good to see that the claims that Toys for Bob is just a CoD machine today is unfounded;

Oh is the work culture at activision fixed yet or do we just not care anymore?

It's genuinely weird that we ban discussion on the HP game (rightfully so) but turn a blind eye to this. I don't understand

I'd love to be wrong btw, I love blizzard games, but so far I'm not aware of any major shifts

Looks like a cursory search shows that acti blizzard at large has the workplace issues. Seems to follow that money into this supports the parent company. Also seems to follow a similar logic that if we buy the new HP game the money ultimately flows back to the TERF that wrote my former favorite childhood book series.

I'm genuinely confused about why we make the exceptions we do on this website, I'd really love to hear from a mod what the reasoning is.

I think the issues should be openly discussed and criticism should be encouraged in threads on Activision games (albeit without too much derailing and nor attacking other members, of course), but since we're talking about a whole publisher, one of the biggests in the market in fact, and on top of being a subject of a giant acquisition in a couple of months, it's not comparable to shutting down just the HP franchise.. which barely gets a game or two per generation these days.

Either way, that's up to modderation. I'm personally fortunate that I didn't spend any amount of money on Activision games since the controversies exploded, since Crash is basically their only IP I care about.. Wumpa League is a deciding factor for me, I'll have to see how they'll put it out (if it's a retail game, or a F2P title)..

But above everything, I'm hoping Microsoft is the change that the whole culture at ABK is in desperate need.

Not gonna lie.. I was expecting at least a frame-flash of the Wumpa League logo on that monitor, for the sake of tradition;

But neat they're cutting the internet requirement stuff on this release; I think modders long ago made some kind of fix for the Battle.Net version;

Incredible post! Wow, I didn't really appreciate all of the hints and build up Wumpa League had until seeing it all together like this.

Hoping the announcement is soon!

Thank you! Well... Not having to keep track of these things is a good position of being! I guess it's more agonizing if you were paying attention.. and that was most of the fanbase because otherwise, there was this weird radio silence (even Crash on the Run entered on a hiatus on its updates now... seems like the perfect timing for a relaunch!); especially when stuff like the State of Play stickers happened, that bursted the conversation for a couple of weeks!

But again, we also have everything else happening at Activision too (and the acquisition on top of that)

God I'm excited to see what this game ends up looking like and playing like. If it feels like crash 4 in terms of game feel then I'm gonna be all over this. Need more Crash content and characters.
I'm open to more experiments and new genres! Crash got stuck in this loop of platformers (mainline, of course), racing and mini-game collections, and never got the chance to have something new on his portfolio.. Mario got tons of sports games, Sonic too; I do want to see some weird games on the franchise, while the iron is still hot!

Oh joy! Can't wait to play this. I guess Crash Team Racing can't be too far behind ... right?
Fingers crossed, but that one's probably less likely since it didn't get a PC port to begin with.

… but they should port it to PC. Such a damn good game hampered by the 30FPS cap. I'd play the hell out of it on Deck if they'd let me. :(

Still waiting for that "Lowered number of needed gems to 6 across all levels" patch. Skins for the casuals, relics for the hardcore.

Also, with the amount of hidden boxes they throw in there to fuck with your time and energy, there should be a separate gem for Hidden Boxes ffs.

For steam deck users, you guys need to wait for the proton update cause the pre render cutscenes are busted
Use the latest version of Proton GE and enter this as a launch option for the game in Steam:
Code:
DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
(Thanks to Sangral for the tip)
I was having issues with cutscenes not playing and with constant stutter during gameplay, but that fixed it entirely for me, seemingly. I'm getting a solid 60FPS on medium settings as of the first desert-y level. (Honestly high settings were mostly great too, but I was getting just enough framerate dips to bother me.)

If anyone wants a lower or higher internal resolution than the output res, go to the engine.ini file for the game (C:\Users\[YOURWINDOWSUSERNAMEHERE]\AppData\Local\CrashBandicoot4\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor) and then put this in at the bottom of the document:

[ConsoleVariables]
r.ScreenPercentage=xx

Then, change xx to the number of your desired resolution percentage. Using this on 4k screen with "r.ScreenPercentage=80" to hit 120fps consistently with RTX 3080 :D

EDIT: Also, if you want to add a sharpening filter due to the TAA being a bit blurry, in that same above engine.ini file, put this at the bottom:

[SystemSettings]
r.Tonemapper.Sharpen=xx

xx can go up to 10, though realistically you probably want between 0.5 and 1.0.

Nicholas Kole art for Crash 4 and Spyro really fits that particularly cartoonish style, hope they bring back for the next one.

The game looks great and plays great, but man... it is relentless.
My advice: Play on modern mode (infinite lives), make sure to have the yellow circle on your drop shadow activated, and just play it collecting what you can on your pace and focus on finishing levels normally; It's way less stressful if you do that way and just get to the end of the game without much care about crates, gems and relics. Not even the FlashBack Tapes and many of the alternative character levels are required anyway..

personally, it's the way I always play games for the first time.. and when I get to the end and think I had a good enough time, I go back to get what I miss to 100% it.

But Crash 4, in particular, is what I feel is the first and only game in the series designed to be hard and sometimes a bit unfair on crate and secret placements indeed.. even the Bonus Rooms are much more head scratching than usually. So it's better for your first experience be as laidback as you can have.

Thanks for your advice. I already play with that settings (and attitude 😬). I will go back to the levels and try to do them 100% when I finished the game. In my initial playthrough I am okay with what I get.

When it comes to the Tapes, I love them. I play them immediately.
