I was watching Blue Valentine with some friends not too long ago and we were discussing the film. Someone mentioned "they could do that," something I've heard many times throughout the years from people who aren't actors. If it was that easy why not do it then?

Maybe if I started taking acting classes. It's not rocket science, so I wouldn't say I could never do it.

Easily! There are some really bad ones who somehow still make it to the screen. So, sure!

I'm a terrible actor with fear of being in front of a camera or on a stage. I also talk low and have a monotone voice. So I'll vote no.

My black ass would prolly need to change my last name first...

Other than that, I'm clearly Oscar-level

The spectrum is so wide sure. Just need to drill my lines and I could be a horror movie actor.

I am a deaf, a person of colour and have a "funny sounding name", not a fucking chance given how racist Hollywood is.

I don't know. Maybe? I feel that becoming a famous actor is mostly being very lucky and/or knowing the right people. It's not like every Hollywood-level actor is all that amazing.

If I were acting I probably wouldn't be anywhere near Oscar-level though.

Do I think I would or could go through the arduous process of constant auditions and working tough jobs while trying to maintain hope that I will someday be "noticed" and make it big? No.

If somebody cast me in a movie do I think I could do a pretty good job? Yeah, considering some of the performances I've seen slide by on the big screen.

Becoming a big actor can be very difficult and often relies on connections, but I don't think being an actor is outside of my abilities. I'd like to take some classes first.

I think people also forget the odds are extraordinarily slim to make it, even with talent. The sheer amount of people who audition for even small bit parts is huge

a lot of folks think they have confidence. you need that or else you wont stand well in front of a camera. i would fund a resetera movie but i dont want it to be a cheap knockoff of The Room.

Nope.

If I could I'd be a Hollywood actor.

In a world where Eddie Redmayne gets roles? Yeah, probably.

Eddie is incredible in a Theory of Everything. I swear this guy gets dumped on because of his role in fantastic beasts. Seriously, seeing him in the role of Stephen Hawking and watching him deteriorate due to his illness........fuck. That took me back to when I was a kid watching my mum succumb to her illness. It was scary and upsetting at the same time as to how spot on he got that. Absolutely astonishing performance.

Nah. I think I have the emotional intelligence/life experience but not the looks or drive, considering how much time you have to invest in possible failure.

Plus the press tour bullshit sounds absolutely soul destroying, no matter how much money you make.

I couldn't act my way out of a paper bag and I wouldn't want to do it unless I was good so no. However given the right break I could do show host or something that only requires the ability to stay cool under pressure, be in front of a camera, and have an audience. In fact have done it at a public acces level on a show lots of people in town watched.

Maybe.

There is a lot of crap actors out there but I imagine it's probably quite hard to even have natural presence that isn't awkward. If you can be at ease in front of the camera that's a huge part.

I think my brain would melt trying to remember lines and act while moving for a reason in the scene. That's just so unnatural and hard to do.

It's probably not a lack of acting ability that keeps most aspiring actors from getting to that level.

I dated an actress who was on some soap operas, worked on Broadway, went to a GREAT school, had tons of connections, was legitimately great looking and she'd barely sniffed a minor recurring role and had been doing this awhile.

Anyway the acting part is a trained, professional skill. It's a craft that only equates to high success when the perfect cocktail nepotism, skill, and a bunch of other things come together. It's exceptionally competitive and extremely difficult to find success in.
