Call of Cthulhu unveils first gameplay from within the grim Hawkins Mansion

Call of Cthulhu, the official videogame inspired by Chaosium's classic pen and paper RPG, is set to unleash madness when the game releases for consoles and PC on October 30. Today, prepare your mind for all-new gameplay, taken from Edward Pierce's investigations within the Hawkins Mansion.

In Call of Cthulhu, feel the influence of Lovecraftian Old Gods and other cosmic horrors, as you delve into the circumstances behind the tragic deaths of the Hawkins family. Helped and hindered by the mysterious locals of Darkwater Island, your journey cuts the line between sanity and madness as the hunt for truth brings Pierce ever closer to the Great Dreamer.

This gameplay trailer takes place during the early stages of Pierce's investigation, though the influence of the Great Old Ones is already creeping into effect. To uncover the truth, players must unearth clues, interrogate locals, solve crime scenes and overcome dangers both physical and mental.

Call of Cthulhu releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on October 30. Digital and retail preorders are available on PC and consoles.

I want the game to be good but this looks pretty rough compared to The Sinking City -- and it's not like that would be a super high bar to clear. Will definitely be waiting on reviews for both.

Looks okay. If it wasn't a few days after RDR I may have grabbed it day one, but I'll have to wait for a nice discount I think.

I think the Sinking City is shaping up to be the better game though.

Seems like a classic "one of those" - not too interesting sadly.
Sinking City looks a lot more interesting, even if it's not really subtle about the Lovecraft influence.

Seems fine to me. Also, I can't help but hear a little Jonathan Reid from Vampyr in the protagonist's voice.

Yeah, as in, if you did not know the name of the game it would be more subtle. As in The Sinking City, they show Cthulhu and tentacles everywhere in the videos and trailers.
I mean, the guy in the trailer image has Cthulhu painted on his mask and there are several tentacles in the trailer and in promo material.

Already pre-ordered, not watching this, but I'm super excited.

It's kind of weird to say this about a publisher, instead of a developer, but it feels like I can't go wrong with Focus Home.

Wait what? I thought this was a Frogwares joint for ages.

Google says it's Cyanide. Huh. Well, I liked Styx, so I'll stay positive for now.

Worth pointing that Frogwares started working on this Call of Cthulhu before Cyanide replaced them (don't know if there is an official or even un-official for that).

The weird thing is that Cyanide, currently making Call of Cthulhu for Focus, was bought by Big Ben this Summer. The same Big Ben publishing Frogwares' Sinking City.

Glad to see Lovecraft but nothing about this trailer grabs me. I hope the protag's addiction plays into the story in an interesting way.

very lovecraftian, especially the part where gilbert gottfried says 'you were trying to force the door, you nosy prick!' :) ...
