Definitely the first.
I grew up believing weddings had to be these big, extravagant affairs that cost tens of thousands of dollars. It was just the basic expectation. I was aware of people not having those kinds of weddings but they were treated as aberrations or something to be ashamed of. It's important for people to know that affordable weddings are both possible and can be really special.
Ive done both. My first wedding was a ridiculously extravagant thing with 200 guests and a 40k bill at the end. My second wedding cost $250. Which do you think was more special and memorable?
I'm not saying that no one should have a big fancy wedding, but they absolutely shouldn't be the expectation. If anything, more people should talk about how to have a great wedding at a reasonable price so that it becomes more culturally accepted.
slightly off topic question for married folks here: how often have you gone back and looked at your wedding photos?
L'amour, l'amour....Why are people shocked by a wedding costing 30k? I have friends that paid 30k for the deposit of the banquet dinner. A typical large wedding is at a hotel, 8 course dinner/lunch, videography and all. Each table is cost around 1-2k seating about 10 people, etc. This is not including wedding photos, decoration, wedding souvenir, videographer, etc. These days, the people my age who do these type of weddings either work in really well paying jobs or are children of businessmen. Parents typically pay for the wedding of their children because a large number of the guests are there because of them. Family friends, cousins that the bride/groom have seen only a handful of times before, business friends etc.
wow. Guy dodged a bullet.
100% this is what happened once he suggested the Vegas wedding.

Who's worse, the lady in the OP or people bragging about their $3.50 weddings that can't grasp how other people want one night in their life to be extragavant?
but he was the love of her life from the age of 14 something something lolShe cray-cray, but I don't know what he was thinking suggesting a Vegas wedding. He couldn't have read her worse if he tried. Or maybe it was exactly the reaction he wanted? Heh.

What? Most millennials around me don't give a fuck about weddings, and a lot of them don't even want one.
Get off your high horse.

So much this. My fiancee was finishing her doctorate while we planned our wedding. As such, I did almost all of the planning. It turned out really well as I know my wife pretty well. :)
Also designed my first cake, which was way more stressful than I thought it could be.
It was fun. I now oversee a division that includes wedding facility/equipment rentals. You should see some of the amazing cakes that people have made for their weddings. Some of these things require 3-4 just to set up on site.

I hate wedding goers who drop $20 and then eat a bunch of food and drink a lot. Minimum $ gift is $100 unless they specifically say zero gifts or monetary donations.

Highly doubtful that its real.
Hope you post this in every thread where someone of a specific age acts in a way that is negatively stereotypical of someone in that age bracket. I'll be looking for them.
