Take your times dogs.

It's not like there isn't a fucking boat load of other things to play this year.

Take your time, Naughty Gods. We'll be here and can't wait to see what you're working on!

I would not be surprised if this new MP title is an extraction shooter or has some elements of it.
I know a lot of people here dislike that trend, but it would work pretty well with the setting of The Last of Us.

Makes sense if they want to launch on both PS5 and PC. TLoU PC release showed they really need to improve in that area if they want a smooth launch.

it's good that they're taking their time to make a good game, we've seen so many bad launches recently. Idk why some are complaining
I think just because we don't have a shred of info on something that was initially supposed to release alongside TLoU2.

I love how they can't say if its a new ip or not. I would love to know if I have to wait 10 years for Part 3 or not, I don't really understand why they can't come out and say they aren't currently working on TLOU3.

I'm desperately curious to see what this MP mode even is for it to warrant this much development time.

Not saying it's not a good thing to let it cook, but I genuinely cannot think of what it might look like, unless it's some kind of persistent, large-scale thing.

I think it also contains a story

It sure sounds like one
Usually an apology includes the words "sorry," "apologize," or some sort of expression of regret, none of which is present here.

They explained their reasoning for why they thought not showing the game yet was the right choice, even though gamers might want to see it now. That's not an apology.

Crazy to think how TLOU multiplayer project went from factions 2 for TLOU 2, to being it's own game (and getting depressed from TLOU P2 with a delay) and it's been nearly three years since TLOU 2 and we still haven't seen jt

Glad to see they confirmed work is going well, just needs more dev time to showcase it nicely, and confirmation they're making more than just one game.

It's not a mode, its a full game with supposedly its own story

Turns out spending time on developing and still fixing PC ports in house takes away many resources

Also, adapting your whole engine and production pipeline to multiplatform development for day-and-date release also takes away many resources and development time gets even longer than before

Another great choice from current Sony management, yay!

Yes, but unironically Sony has been killing it. This last showcase maybe not so much, but their studios have been efficient and have been producing games at a great clip.

Damn seems like you know the ins and outs of development at Naughty Dog, can you tell us more?

Man, I just wanted a silly little multiplayer like the one from the first TLOU, they must be building something really huge for it to be taking this long.

They're probably working on TLOU3 right now but don't want to meddle the messaging since they made a big thing about "Factions" having a big emphasis on story/storytelling.

Re-reading it makes it sound like at least 3 games are in development at ND. TLoU Online and other games including a brand new SP experience among the other games.

This should have been what kickstarted Playstation's GAAS approach, not the three CG trailers we got at the showcase. Makes me wonder if PS has ANY single player projects even close to ready that aren't from Insomniac.

I'm not saying this should have been rushed, not at all. They need to take all the time they need. I just think the showcase kickstarted a GAAS push prematurely for whatever reason, when this is the project that should be at the forefront when it is ready to be shown off.

Makes sense but that seems like a lot of TLOU tbh. Its semi frustrating how much dev times have increased. If the next SP game is not TLOU3, there is probably a good chance it won't be out this decade.

Few studios have earned the benefit of the doubt more than ND. Give them as much time as they ask for, and they will deliver.

It's very likely given the multiple game directors and producers they now have. You could argue that there's the Factions Team, a New IP Team and most definetly a Last of Us Team working on games.

It could be interpreted that way but given game development cycles this gen, it is safe to say that one of those 3 games isn't coming out until the end of this gen at best and more likely at the start of the next one. If Factions lands as is expected then you can bet a team being dedicated to it full time.
