Sorry for being naive about this, but how does input lag make a game running at 30fps, different than a movie playing at 24fps. I don't understand the correlation.
The short answer is that movies are non-interactive and they use SUPER high quality motion blur to blend frames together.

When it comes to games, it's an interactive medium. You input commands. Lower framerate, more input lag, no matter what motion blur you implement (and it is never as high quality as the kind film uses). Input lag is bothersome in all cases, but in faster-paced games like sidescrollers it can be a death sentence.

I adore games like OoT DESPITE the framerate. 30fps is doable for me, without issue even and it doesn't bother me, but higher is better in all cases.

That being said, some genres benefit so greatly from a high framerate that I couldn't play them any other way. Platformers, character action games, fighting games to name a few. These sorts of games, 60fps isn't "nice to have", it's practically a requirement for the game to function due to the speed at which you need to input commands.

That's why people (myself included) are miffed that we switched our backer platform. Had I known the game would be running at 30fps, I'd have stuck with PC. If it were another genre I would have been a little annoyed but would still play it. I cannot play a 2.5D platformer at 30fps.

Well that's really unfortunate news. I had the Switch version pre-ordered since I got Curse of the Moon on Switch but 30fps for a game like this is no good. Might have to change over to PS4 for this.

Yeah i don't mind being 30fps game for single player games. It's always better to have 60fps, but the portable aspect wins for me. Switch it is, can't wait.

I don't think people in general give a f about this. It's probably selling the best on Switch.
Probably? If Curse of the Moon is anything to go about RotN will have half of its copies sold on Switch with the rest of the platforms fighting for the other 50%.

Again, if the sales behave similar to how CotM sold. Regardless I do think it'll sell best on Switch but maybe not by as big a margin as CotM did.

Damn, I was waiting for my Switch backer key.

Maybe I'll double dip for PS4 or PC if it causes me issues.

do you input something in movies? The name is input lag because your input, the controls, lag between when you press the button and when the tv or monitor shows the action. It doesn't matter in movies because you don't have to control anything.
