I'd suggest #1. The game is really not too long once you know what you're doing so it shouldn't be tough to get back to where you were, and it'll be a good refresher for the relatively tough DLC. It'll also give you the ability to play around with a different build than the one you went with initially. The DLC is balanced really well for a NG playthrough so I'd advise going that route over NG+.

Probably best to start from scratch and then play the DLC when you get to BL 65-70. I wouldn't recommend doing the DLC for the first time on NG+, especially if you've been gone for so long.

My first run through The Old Hunters was in NG++ and I had been playing the game non-stop since release, it still kicked my ass. The hardest bosses and areas are in the DLC.

If you decide to go through it with your old save, at least make sure you're not over-leveled as it ruins the experience.

Allright, new game it is! Thanks for the insight, good to hear the DLC isn't too easy or too hard for NG.

Her reaction to finally beating him is basically a summation of what makes these games so damn addictive and satisfying.

I know, right? It's all the more thrilling to see for me personally because this is her first Souls game! I had already played through Demon's and Dark Souls multiple times when I got Bloodborne, so even though I also had a lot of nerve-wracking and fist-pumping moments in BB, it was still a familiar feeling for me.

That (pardon me for saying this) visceral reaction she had is just so pure! Love it and live for it.

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned, but don't neglect the Chalice Dungeons! The levels themselves are a bit ho-hum after a while, but you will find some of the most challenging boss fights in the Chalice Dungeons. There's unique fights not found in the main story part of the game.

I keep dying in Central Yharnam. I think I'm never going to see the other levels

If you mean the large mob around the bonfire, it's a really steep learning curve but once you get past that you're ready for almost anything the game will throw at you over the next few hours. You need to learn to separate them and crowd control effectively. You'll probably need to rush the last 6 or 8 and take them down quickly.

Just past that area there's a
hidden shortcut which will take you back from the most recent lantern almost straight to the boss, or you can skip the first boss if you wish and head to the second, who is mandatory.

I beat Blood-starved Beast on my first try as well, but I would never call it an easy boss. It was very challenging and the fight was super close.

On NG+ I did die, so luck also played a role.
I don't like BSB on replays because you need to grind for antidotes and healing items if you die.

And some of the best and most challenging regular enemies can be found there as well, like Labyrinth Sage, Evil Labyrinth Spirit, Keeper of the Old Lords, Merciless Watcher, and Tomb Guardian.

I beat the Cleric Beast and Father Gascoigne (co-op with a friend), but have not played it since my hiatus well over a year ago (summer 2016). Going to hop back in.

I started with the cane/whip. Have a made a big mistake weapon wise?

Can someone explain to me how I should start this game? I've beaten it once ago long time ago should I start a new game plus mode or should I just make an entirely new game? What does the new game plus mode do anyways? If I should start from scratch, what are the best character builds? By best i mean coolest/most fun. I want to have a different play through this time.

Repost. . can someone answer this?

I think they're great for pure dungeon crawling combat joy overall, but the rewards tend to be shit until you're way deep in there, which is a shame. Granted, I never did them along with the game in terms of level progression etc., I kind of started them too late and was way overleveled and bored for quite some time.

NG+ raises the difficulty aka health pools. No difference in enemy placements and so on, you're basically doing the game again with added challenge.

Regarding builds, I don't know about proper recognized builds, but I personally loved going all-in on Arcane on my second playthrough. The gadgets for it later on are really fun I think. I also did Threaded Cane during that same run and loved how Castlevania it made everything.

I have to agree here, the first area was what taught me how to play the game and what to expect of it going forward.
I think I spent 2-3 days in the area before starting to level and I really needed it to get used to the combat.

And I really enjoyed playing through it even if I died a billion times :)

I'm going to agree with this. Put 3-4 hours into that area (and actually made it all the way to the shortcut back to the lantern before getting killed by a guy I didn't see before unlocking the shortcut) over the first 2 days before putting it down in favor of Nier. Picked it up about a month later and got through that area pretty quickly. Learned to use my gun to parry the big guys with the bricks. Ran past the stupid werewolf fuckers and unlocked the shortcut. Then got shit on by Gascoigne for an hour or two.

No other area really gave me as much trouble as that first area (except maybe Nightmare Frontier) and it was probably because I spent enough time in that first area that I learned when to attack, when to back off, and when to run the fuck away.

Biggest advice I can give to new players: forget your fear and dodge forward (and to the side a bit). I used to always dodge straight back, and you get hit so much more than when you dodge into/under an attack. This also puts you in best spot to counter-attack.

I recently plat, and I started brand new because 1) I hated how my character looked and 2) I wanted a new build. If I were you, if it has been a while, start new. Decide early though what build. I would google to see if you wanna go Bloodtinge/Skill (chikage is damn fun) or pure Skill or Strength build

Can anyone give me good tips or a guide video for how to defeat Orphan of Kos? This bastard is so hard outside of the first phase.

Naw, after picking up a badge later on you can buy all the starter weapons from the store in the hunter's dream. You can try out the other weapons then.

I want to say like 10% of all players ever faced Abhorrent Beast. Shit's sad cause he is by far the most fun enemy to fight in the game (especially the npc version).
It's such a fun fight too since he's so fucking aggressive, but once you learn how to time your dodges right and dodge into the attacks it starts to feel like a dance a bit.
Experience is definitely key with photography. It helps as long as one pays attention to everything.
I platinumed the game with that weapon.

a great game, enjoyed it (or got frustrated by it) a lot a couple of years ago

i also bought the expansion but... never managed to find how to activate it

tip : the threaded cane may look frail but it has amazing reach, so go for that weapon

You made the best choice.

My entire first playthrough was with the threaded cane. It's a fun and versatile weapon, even if it can get frustrating with some enemies. R1->L1 transform->R2 is super fun though, and you can really get the feeling of shredding through some enemies.

Sweet, thanks for the feedback! I think my initial class was 'Lone Survivor' too, not sure how much those matter in the later game, but I am sure they matter more starting off. I will have to boot up the game when I get home and check.

Thanks for the tips as well. Are you talking about the visceral attack in sword form with R2?

Uh, I mean the DLC is not easy. It probably has two of the toughest bosses in Soulsborne history with the last boss probably being the hardest boss in the series. They are incredibly well made boss fights though and the DLC as a whole is brilliant.

Game of the generation for me so far, good luck to all those experiencing it for the first time, may hop on tonight to be a summon for some of the tougher bosses.

- The Sinister Resonant Bell and Small Resonant Bell aren't available until you've collected 10 insight, which happens by encountering bosses, beating bosses, and consuming Madman's Knowledge. When you've reached 10 insight, there will be a second shop available

I played last night and did not have 10 insight. I just went to the fountain and bought it for 1 insight.

Defiled chalice, the true Bloodborne starts here. After you master it, not much can shock you anymore in the base game.

I never finished Bloodborne. That's around the time my old PS4 stopped playing discs. Never was low enough on sale to re-buy digitally. This is the time!! Still have my old save. Cloud saves are a godsend. Question is... Do I want to continue or start over? That learning curve is gonna kick my ass if I don't start over. Decisions...

I would recommend a new save if you're like me and hate looking at an old save file and seeing you using certain weapons and skills. It's like, "what was I thinking" lol. If you don't remember much of the game then definitely start a new save file and experience it again like for the first time.

Watching those gifs and with the fact that tlou creeped me out I don't know if I'm ready for this lol.

Real hunters specialize in Bloodtinge. Release your inner weab and grab yourself a Chikage.

Seriously, 50/50 Bloodtinge and Skill and you'll slaughter anyone with it. You don't have to put that much into skill but it helps with the one handed mode. This will also let you equip Simon's Bowblade as your secondary which also tears up enemies.
This weeb prefers the Rakuyo, but again, I've done all PVE up til now.
Although, now that my NG+4 character is nearing level 300, I have no reason not to experiment with everything under the sun. Maybe it's time to finally do what I said long, long ago to a certain someone at Cainhurst and submit to the Vilebloods.

I see, you're about half way through the story because killing rom changes a lot of the game. I wouldn't bother with the area to the left of leaving the building with the flame pits unless you want to pick up random goods. Those fire pits can be used to lure those enemies into them for some major damage, but eventually burn out if used to much. I felt like the developers knew they put too many of those guys there and had those fire pits there to help. You can access the upper parts of the buildings where you can get the elevator to work and use as a shortcut to cross easily to the boss across the streets. Beware of the red dogs and wolves up there cause they are much more dangerous. At that point a lot of the enemies have a red glow to them, so they are roughing and hit harder. To boss is rather easy and I'll add a tip as a spoiler if you get frustrated with him.,

when you enter the fight, run past him and go left or right up the steps. You'll see a bunch of enemies on the upper floor you can kill that make the fight much easier.
Thank you very much for the tip

I had trouble beating this game the first time. A friend helped me. Now I've 500 hours of playtime.

That's what I can do right now

I never finished it and started playing again recently. I just continued, but I did go through all the areas I had already been through to get back up to speed and get some blood echoes.

I sold my Bloodborne GOTY last year. Will my save work with the PS Plus version considering it's just the base game?
