Companies do that all the time, I remember one that deleted all the rational and polite criticisms from a trailer and let the ones made by absolute shitheads intact
People don't understand that this is not a product aimed at the traditional Diablo player base. They are absolutely working on Diablo 4 and they even released a PR statement saying that Diablo 4 is being worked on but isn't being announced at Blizzcon. Anyone angered by this only has themselves to blame.
This is disrespectful and cringe-worthy. This person and anyone laughing at this should really dial it back.
If you laughed at this or thought it was clever than you are part of the problem. I almost wish ResetEra didn't become a place for hot scoops/breaking news to the degree it has because the influx of trash, negativity spewing elitist "core gamers" on this side of the boards is really beyond the pale. Be it Blizzard threads or Smash threads some of yall really are a bunch of do-nothing-but-complain-about-everything black holes.
Some people actually care about their product and want people to enjoy it.Don't worry, they will be rich after reskinning their cheap game for Blizzard. They'll be laughing soonish.
I know this was 10 years ago but remember when Wii Music was the E3 closer?
- audience of predominantly PC gamers
- audience of the most hardcore fans of Blizzard franchises
- conference specifically aimed at those hardcore PC gaming fans
- final, most exciting announcement after two hours of anticipation
"Hey guys Diablo has been farmed out to a Chinese mobile developer!"
Its amazing how Nintendo is one of the few companies that understands that you should show off mobile games separate from the enthusiast events
Yes to both. Specifically, they hyped up Diablo news for it.So I only half heard this stuff due to only seeing it because I am on giantbombs extralife stream and they watched it but doesn't blizzard hype up and charge people to attend blizcon for these announcements?
Bethesda, Nintendo and Microsoft all handle their mobile announcements better and nobody cared.
Blizz handles it the worst way and everybody notices and cares.
What is this thread smoking.
YikesThe best thing that came out from the Diablo panel.
EDIT: And this as well lol
This 'obliviousness' will earn them a hundred million dollars, surely.

This idea that mobile game announcements need to be perfectly timed not to hurt the feelings of "hardcore gamers" is ridiculous. Take a step back and think about it for a moment.

A comparison pic between another NetEase's mobile game (Crusaders of Light) and Diablo Immortal:
And they have plenty of similar games that are basically reskins of each other.
At least the game being developed by other studio means Blizzard still has an inhouse team focusing on a main game, aka possible Diablo sequel.
Yes, the perfect timing of "literally any day and hour but the closing attraction of blizzcon opening ceremony". So hard to nail, geez.
I think if youre big enough of a blizz fan to buy tickets, take a plane, book a hotel and go to a convention for blizzard fans who primarily play on PC youd expect something more.
This isnt even like E3 or something. This is a convention focused on pleasing fans 100%. Theres nothing more to this conversation.
is it really that though? the first new Diablo game in 6 years & it's Mobile only, it's very disappointing. Even some of the MVP's on the D3 forum, who are extremely respectful, are upset about this.I mean, considering how toxic the reaction is, and how they don't actually owe people anything, and they even told people to not be hyped up, I don't see why we should pile on Blizzard here. This GaMeRs RiSe UP bullshit of exploding on devs when they do something that you're not into has gotten quite old to me over the course of this year.
None of this justifies the straight up toxicity on display but sure, totally Blizzard's fault.
People don't want mobile versions of bigger platform games that are established. Especially if you tout it as the next chapter, ESPECIALLY if you make it seem like a bigger deal than it is.
Don't know how companies keep making this mistake. Mobile is a fine platform, this game looks fine, but shit, stop being surprised when its not what your established fans want.

We can do this with a lot of games. There are mobile games that look like Call of Duty from a simple screenshot. The real difference lies in gameplay polish when you actually have it in your hands.
The worst part is not only was this the closer to the opening ceremony, but it's outsourced to another company. It's telling your community you weren't even worth making it in house. People could be excited for a mobile spinoff if it looked like some effort was put into it. This is coming from someone that plays a lot of gacha games.
What "straight up toxicity"? The guy asking if it was aprils fool joke? I agree it was uncalled for and said it in another thread. The guy who just asked if it would be mobile forever and got a "don't you have a cellphone????" answer? Other people who - gasp - disliked a youtube video or are not happy about it and posted about it on an internet forum? How deluded you need to be to think every negative feedback equals toxicity?
While I think it's important to note that we can all have an opinion on this, looking down in that Twitter thread:
He might not want to get on his high horse about people's obnoxious behavior. Fans of a franchise are allowed to be (publicly) disappointed and the fan in that video asking if it was an April Fool's joke wasn't screaming, wasn't cursing, wasn't being disrespectful.
