Was gonna wonder why making two similar threads successively but then saw apology in OP, LMAO.
Back in topic, Persona 5 and YS VIII.

Anyone who didn't vote for this then simply he \ she didn't finish it to realise how much of a masterpiece the game is.
I don't think Nier: Automata is a JRPG but it's the best game on the list.
Nier Automata is kinda stretching it, in terms of JRPG, but for the best overall package, it's between than that and DQ11.
For favorite though, it's Ys 8.
Is it really a masterpiece if the reason I didn't finish it is because I was both bored to death after 20 or so hours of grinding and ear-shredding music, and totally turned off by annoying characters? I think SE have utterly exhausted my good will and nostalgia for this series at this point.
At least DQ Builders is good.
Okay, help me out here. How is Nier any more controversial on this list than Ys? Or Kingdom Hearts, for that matter? All three are just action games with experience points.
Voted FF XV as a joke and also cause I couldn't see poll results without voting wtf?
Anyway, I haven't played the majority of these but I can't fathom them being worse than Kingdom Hearts III
A lot of similarities as far as basic gameplay is concerned but with more refinement and QoL improvements. The game is also more focused on single player with no multiplayer components, allowing for actual fleshed out party members and a more story-driven narrative.Persona 5, but only because I haven't played DQXI.
I've only played Dragon Quest IX, but I love the fuck out of it. Is it similar to that?
A lot of people seem to think anime art style = JRPG. There are even some fools out there who insist Demon's/Dark Souls and Bloodborne are WRPGs.Okay, help me out here. For me? NoWas there an avatar bet about Death Stranding winning at the game awards by any chance?
Persona 5 winning is disappointing, it's a shadow of Persona 4 in almost every way possible.
I personally got pretty tired of both the battle system and the music around...Oh I dunno, the 30-40 hour mark? But then you'd be ignoring a great game with a killer soundtrack and one of the best turn-based battle systems out there.

Personally, I'm fine with categorising FFXV, Mana, Ys, KH, Nier, Bloodborne, etc as Action RPGs but I'm also not against including all those Action RPGs within the JRPG genre because it isn't the 90s and we can't just define what a JRPG is based on what Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest did back on the NES/SNES. But if you're going to exclude one, you have to exclude them all.
-DQXI: The best way I can describe it is as if the dev team spent enormous amounts of effort and love into making an JRPG as bland, uninspired and vanilla as humanly possible. It's not just a bland game, it feels like there's been an incredibly meticulous consideration behind its blandness. It's weird.
People that hate on DQXI boggle my mind. I have put so much time in the game and am amazed at how much content is packed away in it. And darn it if it doesn't have one of the most charming cast of party members I've seen in a while.Hahaha. I can't agree in the slightest but that description was still amusing.
No Bloodborne or Dark Souls 3? I'd pick those over any on the list then definitely DQ11. Then P5. I'm not going to count Nier Automata.

But...then Dragon Quest 1, the game the entire genre is built on, isn't a jrpg anymore.I don't know about those others, but NieR never has you control a full party, does it? That's one of the big requirements to me for being a JRPG instead of just an RPG. Single-hero games don't meet that criteria. And if we've retconned that to be the case, then Yakuza Zero should easily win best JRPG; it has more actual roleplaying and character development than most games that call themselves RPGs these days.
