Sadly petitions mean shit when there's nobody to enforce themHoly shit how did I miss this topic...
Is there any kind of petition going around?
Sure, but if nothing else it could increase awareness. These companies are susceptible to cultural pressures, unlike large governments.
So you want me to calm down which is not needed and efter that you use the phrase "don't bark". If I were you I would choose my words carefully to be polite. It is extremely rude to say to me "Don't bark". Tone policing and passive aggresively calling me a barking dog is not acceptable.
And poor people who have no choice of buying ethical 4K's compared to slave labour workers who are facing genocide. I dont know if you hear yourself.
If this isn't the biggest load of; "fuck you, I got mine".
Let's be clear. You have always have a choice as a consumer. We can choose to do the right thing for the sake of others.
Our hobbies shouldn't be at the cost of the lives of those less fortunate.
Bumping cause mods won't sticky this and the majority of ERA don't give a shit.
After three days of silence I think it's safe to say that gaming journalists simply don't care about Muslims and companies profiting from literal slavery.
Because I can't think of any possible reason why they've written fuck all about this. They certainly have no problems talking about every other silly shit that happens in this industry.
higher premium price for consoles might not be too disastrous. People pay hundreds to keep a VR industry going, thousands for phones, and computers. These industries haven't died due to high prices.
Damn.Report: China Sells Minorities Into ‘Forced Labor’ to Benefit Apple, Foxconn, Others | ExtremeTech
A new report alleges China is deploying tens of thousands of ethnic minority workers in what amounts to a slavery ...www.extremetech.com
Never heard of them before but the article is pretty good. The author definitely did his homework.
The fact so many known gaming journalists are here and have the power to talk about this but conveniently...they won't.
It's capitalism working and we're all responsible for it. Directly or not.
No, you can boycott buying future electronics until you're sure your company of choice is NOT using slave fucking labor to assemble it. You can call your local representative or congressman. You can write to the company. You can sign petitions.
I've tweeted to Jason Schreier about it, if we tell other reporters about this news story, we can come to the conclusion of whether it's just a blindspot on their news radar or they don't care about the situation. To me this is the greater sin here, the sheer ignorance of those who have the ability to do something about it.
I wonder why they choose to ignore it? Fear, ignorance or simply apathy towards the Uighur people?
Sorry but I dont think you're posting in good faith after all this fantastic suggestions other posters again and again posted.Alright so I wasn't trying to insult you or anything. Sorry if you were offended by that. You are ignoring my point though that you're putting energy towards consumers when the problem isn't the consumers it's corporate who desire to exploit for maximum profit.
Your choice is to not buy something or do. My point was there is no ethical option when it comes to buying electronics. Yeah you could just not buy electronics but thats not going to help unless you convince the majority to do so.
I do agree that our hobbies shouldn't cost anyones lives. Its just we don't know what everyone has to deal with. Maybe this hobby is what helps them cope with whatever life they're dealing with. So I don't think its fair to get mad at people on this forum for continueing to discuss about tvs in a thread.
We all suffer under capitalism to different extents.
I'm of this mind as well. I mean, what else can we do, other than waiting to not buy a product this holiday season?Sure, but if nothing else it could increase awareness. These companies are susceptible to cultural pressures, unlike large governments.
Thank you, much appreciated!
A reminder that Nintendo IS moving some production to Vietnam.I'm of this mind as well. I mean, what else can we do, other than waiting to not buy a product this holiday season?
At the very least, I'd think Nintendo is so hyper-aware of its image, and leans so heavily on its ethical, family-friendly branding, that if a petition that indicates it's benefiting from slave labor went viral, it would act swiftly to mitigate the damage. The optics are terrible; I feel like awareness could go a long way, here.
Lots of tech/fab companies are/were adding/switching/increasing workload to Vietnam even before COVID-19.A reminder that Nintendo IS moving some production to Vietnam.

Hopefully they'll move even more or even all of it to Vietnam or at least outside China eventually. But they seem to be one of the few if not the only one who's publicly done so.

First of all in that 4k thread I wasn't mad or barking or whatever exeggaration/insult you're implying and 'if you're offended by it' non-apology is not accepted. We can move on since you clearly trying to equate a grave situation like literal slavery to people having stress and needing relieve by buying irresponsibly.
Secondly my post in that thread was like suggesting that they should try to avoid buying from companies which are profiting from slavery. Plus it is suggestable to wait since there are new techs coming this year, so it is good to wait even if there was no slave labour problem. One can be an informed, responsible consumer.
And lastly like I said before, it is either incredibly naive or sinister to post again and again defeatist and enabling shit like consumers cannot do anything. I send Nintendo a message and as for reply, they send me a pdf from september declaring they're transparent about not using slave labour. I reminded them the report is recent so that pdf does not mean anything. They said they will have a response regarding situation. I told I would remind again and refrain buying any Nintendo merchandise until we have cristal clear stance. It will be hard, yes, especially if they release 3D world for Switch or Switch Pro but I can hold or buy second hand. Same for the 4k tv upgrade I want. I'll go for a brand not profiting from slave labour or buy used.
I wouldn't be so sure. I've read folks point out that due to the virus, only the JP supply is affected, HEAVILY hinting that the vast majority of production is outside China now. That's right. Trump's tariff threat prompted additional production capacity to Vietnam.
As far as I'm aware, Switch production there is a tiny fraction of overall global system production.
I'm currently writing up an article for this, our site is pretty small in the grand scheme of things but every little helps to spotlight it, really.
I have a question though - is Uighur the preferred spelling? I'm seeing Uyghur more often, but I don't wanna step out of line with it.
Think of car production lines and assembly in Western countries. Mass-market vehicle production but with skilled, well-paid jobs.
In any case, I've not bought a laptop in well over ten years [still runs like a champ]. I don't intend buying another until it stops working.
Still playing Mario Kart 8 on Wii U and various titles on years-old cosmos black 3DS. Don't intend buying a new Nintendo platform.
Much more conscious of clothes and trainers too. Won't buy from certain countries and only then when clothes are falling apart.
Thank you. It's Uyghur, but it's a term in a non-english language so there will be variation, doesn't make much difference.I'm currently writing up an article for this, our site is pretty small in the grand scheme of things but every little helps to spotlight it, really.

I think the Y version does indeed appear to be closer to what is preferred, though I don't think it would be a showstopper either way.

It's ok. It just depressing to see when consumers underestimate their power.Alright you make a fair point. Again I'm sorry if I came off as rude.

What made the team change their minds? Cause I was sent this earlier today in my alerts.

"Unfortunately, your recent report has been rejected: Post in thread '[BBC] In China, Uighurs 'moved into factory forced labour' for foreign brands Apple, Google, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony' - Stickied threads tend to get less traffic than organically popular front page threads."
This is disgraceful, I would be more than happy to pay more for electronics if it meant more people (preferably all) were treated properly.
Honestly how has this not been all over the News/Web etc
